I am a huge fan of this series this was book was fantastic and love Lorelei King in this she give so much life to the book it was so much fun to listen to this book i was just sorry when it was over. If you have not read Darynda Jones yet you should she is amazing love her!
Isn't the best of course, I've listened to A LOT of audiobooks. But it's one of my favorites. I have listened to the books of this series again just for the entertainment, and will listen to this book as well. It's a good story with some of the best "one liners" I've ever heard. Seriously, I still laugh when I think of some of the things Darynda Jones writes.
Too many, In the beginning when Cookie and Charley are going though her home shopping channel purchases. Or when Charleys sister can't find her pants and wears a pair of Charleys only to find out later she was walking around in public with "EXIT ONLY" written across her bum. I can go on and on.
Charley.... And Cookie. The conversations between the two characters narrated by King has me laughing like a nut!
I don't know, Maybe "Just because you're the grim reaper you don't have to be grim" That's cheesey, I know.
The story written is both interesting and full of twists and turns, action and drama. I like to think I'd like it in written form but Loreli King really is one of the reasons I adore these books so much. But like I mentioned earlier I have listened to each of the books in this series a couple times because they are so entertaining. I have gotten some really weird looks from people who see me laughing my butt off at apparently nothing that they can see or hear.
Married, middle-age, owner of 2 dogs, 2 cats, and a messy house.
There is a lot of sadness and pain in this story, but considering what has been going on in Charley's life, that was sort of necessary. There is also the expected snarkiness that has me laugh out loud, and the strength of family and friendship that holds this book together. It has a texture that is richer than the previous books, and I'm really pleased where Darynda is headed.
It has the feel of a book in the middle of a series, where the book doesn't really start, but just picks up, and doesn't really end, but just stops. However, this is not a bad thing. It's a bit like walking into a roomful of friends I haven't seen in a while. The end of this story could have been heartbreaking in several ways, but instead, a new mystery of how to cure cancer is thrown in, and Reyes actually starts answering questions. (Thank God.)
This is definitely a series that should be read in order, and an author that needs to write faster, as I'm already ready for book 5!! By the way, it's worth hearing a second time. In the 2nd hearing, I've already picked up some author snarkiness in chapter one. Silly Rabbit indeed.
Addicted to books, especially audiobooks. Read lots and prosper!
I've blasted through the first 4 books and am eagerly waiting for the next. It's my best compliment to any book series! The author has done an amazing blend: a unique spin on paranormal with Charley's abilities, well fleshed out characters with a solid story line (some points I might guess in advance, but often the way it ends up there is a surprise), and smart mouthed fast paced action, that could be dark, but manages to find the bright and positive and keeps the story light without swarminess. Some stories can be so pithy that it can grate like sandpaper with all that negativity in the story. Jones seems to be able to keep a balance with humor and zingers and not let the sarcasm overwhelm and bury the story in dark depression. If I was going to point a finger at any one little thing, it might be a slight annoyance of Charley's denseness at times - but finally she is starting to get some of it and find a smidgeon of her powers. Maybe because she didn't get as much coffee as usual? Now there's a thought! It's great to see her growing and learning. The narrator has totally nailed it all the way. Download and enjoy without fear - these are great!!
Ready to enjoy great books!
I enjoy this series but it almost seems as if the author trys to cram 7 different plots in a fairly small read. Don't get me wrong I had no problem keeping up with the twist in turns but my goodness poor Charley
I loved that she didn't let us know that Harper was dead. I was floored when I realized that!
When she finally had Reyes in the flesh!
All of them!
I can not say I love them all!
I love the narrator Lorelei King you are awesome please don't stop reading these books you help make them what they are!
Fun, Sexy and Smart.
Left me wanting the next book right now.
Lorelei King is, in my opinion, one of the best book narrators out there. I have a hearing problem, and I never have problems listening to her books. Her voice is clear and crisp, and she has a great range for both male and female voices.
I felt the plot in this book was a little lighter than the other three books, and the pacing was a little slower than the other books, but it was still a great book. This is one of those series that I will listen to in one or two sessions--if I can't start early enough on day one to listen to the entire book, I'll be up early on day two to finish it. There aren't too many books out there that make me want to do that.
Anyone who's a fan of the Janet Evanovich Stephanie Plum series will probably love this series too. Charlie reminds me of what Stephanie would be if she had a paranormal bent.
The best book in the series – these books just keep getting better
I have waited for this book for about a year!!! Unfortunately this series (unlike the other ones I listen to) is not complete yet which means there is a lot of anticipation between books.
However, this book was WORTH the wait!!!
There is a bit more information revealed about Charlie’s background and about her protector (son of Satan).
I loved that the book has several story lines which keeps it entertaining and keeps you guessing. Charlie is funny and crazy as always.
Sadly, the book ended too soon and now I will have to wait again until the next one comes out :( wish she could write these faster but maybe then they wouldn’t be as good.
FYI – I really wasn’t all that impressed with the 1st book and the 2nd was alright but the 3rd and this one are AMAZING!
Language is Darynda Jones' favorite toy. This very funny series is the reason all my friends are mad at me. I've gotten them all addicted to Charley Davidson and waiting for the next book to come out is agonizing. We love them. The humor which is peppered throughout, even when the main character isn't quite herself and may be staring death in the face, is refreshingly funny and laughter through tears sometimes is my favorite emotion. The story line is never boring.
Charlee is a little whiney and hard to follow. Why did your father shoot you? You didn't save your human client. You keep getting cryptic hints about your powers and choose to ignore them rather than figure them out.
