This was much better than I expected, and I did expect a great deal. There were a few minor annoyances with characters, but they couldn't be helped as their trajectory had been set long ago. Still, my first statement stands. Thank you Mat for all the laughs, and thanks Mr. Sanderson.
Reaching a conclusion to a series like the "Wheel of Time" is wonderful. The entire set of stories was well crafted and the performances were excellent. Having a cast that you can follow throught all their changes and evolutions to a good ending is worth the wait.
The "Game of Thrones" is similar but I consider the "Wheel of Time" series more interesting as there is a set of characters through the entire series.
Michael and Kate did an excellent performance making a very long series interesting and soemthing you could enjoy more than once.
As one setting would have taken more than an entire day it was consumed as quickly as possible.
Yes. It was a good story with lots of action.
Lan. He's one tough guy.
Both do an excellent job, creating separate voices for each character.
The part when I was driving down the road yelling "Get him, Lan! Get him!"
Oddly enough, I found Rand's fight to be the least interesting of the three battle fronts. Guess it's difficult to relate something that is of the mind rather than a physical battle. I missed Nynaeve's spunk in this one. Her role was very small in comparison to the other books. I've looked forward to reading this since I started reading WOT. Overall it didn't disappoint. Some things seemed rushed and the way a few things turned out was quite shocking, but it was a satisfying ending to the series.
The audio edition is a great way to conclude the series if you are too busy to sit down and read over a thousand pages of the print version. However, the accent the narrators used does take sometime to get use to, especially if you read the print version of the other volumes!
The sword training session between Rand and Tam was very memorable as it showed that their father-son relationship still existed and sounded like what could be a really cool movie scene.
Michael Kramer and Kate Reading bring an extra dimension to the characters especially in the portrayal of their accents which helped in depicting the cultural diversity of the WoT world.
I would say anyone who has followed the series will be very satisfied with this final book. Hard to believe it is the last book!
There were many clever twists and turns. I won't give any of it away with spoilers - it was all memorable-especially the ending!
Yes - all the books. They are fantastic.
It would be difficult - with over forty hours of listening - but, if it were possible? Yes!
For me, this was a special experience. I stumbled upon the Wheel of Time after several of the books had already been published. I fell in love with the vast amount of characters, settings, plot lines, and the writing. I was so dismay and sad when Jordan passed - and am so grateful that Sanderson took up the cause. My only hope, now is that he will continue to write future stories - there is a rich and vast world that is still waiting to be written. Here's to the end of a fantastic run - and hopefully, the beginning of a new age.
I've been reading this series for literally almost 20 years. It is altogether likely the longest story ever written. It spans 14 main books, plus a prequel (1/3 the length of one of the others). The print versions (each about 700-1000 pages depending on the format) each contain a 20+ page glossary to help people keep terms and people straight. It is an incredibly detailed world.
But, don't let that throw you off. If you have the patience to let yourself get immersed in the story, it will never seem to get old. The story is told from many different peoples' points of view, both male and female. Everyone seems to find their favorite characters and that really gets them into the story.
It contains the best of all storytelling concepts. It has fate and foreshadowing laced all through it -- but it also has people refusing to let fate guide them. It has heroism, politics, mystery, action, war, loyalty, failure, betrayal, guilt, death, mourning, love, jealousy, joy, and victory. Yet, it doesn't seem to be cheesy. The entire thing becomes a journey that will have you looking forward to the next volume with your guesses on what will happen next.
It literally took longer than the life of the original author to finish. But, he had enough time to sketch out what needed to happen to end the story. What was likely the best possible replacement author was brought in (who was also a fan of the series) to flesh out his remaining dream. That dream was finally realized and concluded in this volume.
Overall, this series was tremendous. While some parts in the middle volumes could have been shortened, I highly recommend it to everyone. As long as you have the attention span to give it, you will come away impressed.
In previous books, there was more interplay between the "minor" players (i.e. maidens and Dragon Reborn). Realize there was much to cover, but missed the levity this provided. Only one place in the entire book where this was somewhat brought out, but seemed "forced" - did not flow.
The book is interesting and brings a "finality" to the series. Don't understand some of the epilogue (lighting pipe with none of the powers, but I guess we can use our imaginations. Overall the book was well laid out and brought realism ti the final book.
Performances were good, but feel that the narrators tones were flat at times - no emotion.
Enjoyed the book. Minor negative comments.
Yes, because the story is compelling and the readers are very good.
It was a fitting end to a very long series of books, and a rip roaring story.
Yes, and this one is up to their usual standard: Superb.
Yes, but impossible to do, since it was very, very long.
Great book, Great readers. Great all around.
Fast paced, fly by the seat of your pants!
None, I have not had the fortune of reading another book as good as this one.
I am a big fan of Michael Kramer and Kate Reading's work. This is their best by far.
No, I listened to it to and from work in the span of a couple of weeks.
Buy this book! It's awesome!
This is the best last book I have ever heard in all the series that I have listen to over the years. I have probably listen about 50 series/trilogies and so forth
The whole book
They did a great job through out the whole series
The book made my emotion run the gambit
One of the top 5 books I have ever read or listen to over my 43 years
