I've listened to and read the Wheel of Time series many many times. This is without a doubt some of the finest story telling, character creation, plot development, fighting, suspense, and amazing writing there is.
To top it off the narrators do such an awesome job of bringing this series to life that I find myself wishing everything was narrated by them. As it is, I consider anything either of them narrate to be an automatic seal of approval of a well crafted book worth listening to.
The ending of an amazing story that has been part of my life for so long.
I honestly did not anticipate how it would end and yet it wasn't the anti-climatic disappointments you sometimes get. Neither is it the overly ideal climax where it shows the protagonists and supporting characters to be too good to be true and everything is exaggeratedly awesome.
Simply put, it was fulfilling. It made me feel happy, sad, angry, disgusted, proud, excited, nervous, anxious, and so many other things.
Characters I didn't like I fell in love with (except Gawyn, really don't like him from the start until the end) and those I loved before made me less fond of them. Not in a bad way but in a way that it balanced out.
In short, the final book was just RIGHT... It fit so well to how you can expect the characters to have played their parts. I mean I have speculated for years on how the "Last Battle" would play out yet none of it would have been fitting and natural as this.
This is the second time I have read this, it won't be the last time, and I feel like I am losing a life companion. How I wish I could join their world and see the wheel turns and how the pattern weaves on.
As for the performers, no one else could have done the Wheel of Time any justice except Michael Kramer and Kate Reading. They have a natural gift for bringing the characters to life.
Overall, this is a well written and well preformed epic spread over 14 books. The only downgrade is for the lack of consistency in the voicing of the characters from book to book. However, that annoyance typically only lasts for a chapter or so before the story absorbs you again.
very good I have listened to the complete series every year for the last 3 years. I love how you are dragged though a maelstrom of emotions.
this one I could barely put down. quite a few twists I didn't see coming, as well as a few a called quite a way off. still they left you guessing on those few right up until the moment they were confirmed. highly recommended the series.
I find myself as "depressed" as when I finished reading the series for the first time. I enjoyed reading these books so much that I doubt that I will find another series that can compare.
I started reading this series in the early 90's. I'd read as far as Jordan had gotten in the journey then step away from the books for a few years, then start again from the beginning. Over the last two years I've been listening to the entire story again just now finishing the final book. Words cannot express how much I've enjoyed the world Jordan has shared with us. It's an amazing story with characters that I feel I've grown up with and will miss. I could not recommend a series of books higher than the Wheel of Time.
