What the heck? Just when the story looks like it just might be going somewhere - BOOM! - it ends. If these guys were planning on writing a trilogy or something, they should at least let the reader know ahead of time because the story ending in the middle of nowhere is a HUGE disappointment.
Don't waste your money...
Starts off pretty good, then turns into a long drawn out story that leaves you waiting for something to happen.
Once something starts to build the book just ends, leaving you hanging and wondering why you bothered suffering through the slow drawn out survival story that occupies most of the story.
Even if a second book is released, I wouldn't bother.
have an aim for so there is something to build up to
Did pretty good job of a long drawn out story
Lacking in direction and no ending.
Resolving the plots, the mysteries, the conflicts, the story, the character development -- anything at all -- before just ending the book in the middle of everything. At the end, it was obvious that the publisher wanted the reader to buy another book whenever it comes out, but I will not and I do not recommend that anyone else do so. The story line was repetitive and predictable. Also, the discourse among the characters and within the minds of the characters was elementary. It was extremely disappointing.
maybe, not likely
Terrible ending. No resolution. Could use another 6 hours to wrap it up.
Nice Idea! Hard science not 100%. But fair to good story. Ends in a CLIFF HANGER! There will be at least one more book maybe more..SPOILER..Earth ship lands on a bowl ship as large as the earth to the sun. What does the landing party do? Bring out cutting equipment, brake in and start killing animals and running arround! NO First Concact proatcals. Has some DUMB things happen, but if you hang in their it has some interesting moments.
Pretty enjoyable story if you are into Science Fiction. I thought the unique world and aliens were a fresh perspective. Good creativity.
It is true that the humans do not have a "star trek" quality personality but the adventure was interesting. Looking forward to the 2nd book.
Zach Villa is a great narrator. I especially liked his use of voice variation to give each character personality and dimension. The story itself is began somewhat slowly, but picked up speed as the plot started to unfold when the ship encounters the artifact and the landing crew makes contact. Not wanting to give away any spoilers, but will, I hope the author has the sequal in the works because I want to know what happens to the crew. But even though the book has a cliff hanger ending, it was still an excellent listen and is a worthwhile investment for anyone familiar with the authors other works and the works of Larry Niven.
Yes, based on the collaboration they put into this book, I would definitely read another book authored by the two of them.
Book two is downloading now. I read Gregory Benford books in the 90s, and now he is just as good.
I've read Larry Nevins books since the 70s. Always imaginative with great characters. This book gets lost in some of it's own complexity, and Bowl of Heaven is not as much a cliffhanger but an inconclusive conclusion at best.
If they were honest and said it was "part 1" of a story in which they have not released part 2
yes. I liked the start of the story but feel ripped off
Do not but until you know when the story actually ends, it was "average" to start and then built up, and just as it got interesting it stopped. I feel a complete waste and I was mislead, it is not even half a story
