Compelling, dark, epic.
Karou - a fascinating combination of weakness and strength.
Yes. She's versatile and affecting. This sequel to the other book "Daughter of Smoke and Bone" that she also narrated is wonderful.
It's quoted in the book itself often enough: "A devil and an angel fell in love. Things did not go well."
Love this site! I have a very busy job, so listening to audio books enables me to keep up on great stories!
In the top tier for sure, but that would include Daughter of Smoke and Bone as well.
Though beautifully told, this novel is so serious and sobering, and then you have Zuzana and Mik adding comic relief. Thank goodness for that!
Heart. She's very realistic with her characters, so I find myself not focused on her performance but on the story.
No way. It's beautiful, but I couldn't take how heavy it was at times. About mid-way through, I switched to Mindy Kaling's "Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?" It was so good, so funny, it gave me the break I needed. Then I went back to Days of Blood and Starlight, and listened to it with a clear head. That really helped.
Really great story, I loved it (as much as you can love something dark), but the reason I didn't give the story 5 stars is because of the excessive amount of characters in the novel. I found it distracting. Other than that, lovely story, lovely narration, looking forward to book 3!
I started out listening to books for work and now have become addicted. Every where I drive is a new adventure...
I'm so sad that I'm done reading this one. I wish there was more. I loved the story line and the twists and turns of the book. I am usually incredibly good at figuring out the plot to almost every book or movie, just by looking for cues. This book had more than one surprise that left me wishing for more ....
So, please don't let the next book in the series take more than a year to come out. PLEASE!
Long haul trucker who loves to listen...
Brilliant , engaging, unique
All of them, wonderful characters all around
She is a lively narrator...wonderful job in this series
Yes, best descriptive series I have ever read.
It is top of my list, hands down. Laini can come live itch my family if she ever needed
Hvam's performance was spectacular and moving!
I both laughed and cried several times each.
I am immortal ....so far. I enjoy a god story and love a great narrator. :-)
The story is great, couldn't wait to find out how the story could continue but I am happy with how the story line is coming together and the narrator is really outstanding.
Not in this lifetime!
This story had so many factions I couldn't figure out who anyone was or whose side they were on. The time period is strange to recognize as there are humans, angels and shadows that exist all at the same time, and the other than natural beings . . . are wearing jeans?
I never knew what side of the portal the story existed; when I thought they were out of human reach, humans showed up after hiking through the desert. The romance part was ill and the plot worse. If you like listening to something that never has or comes to a point, this is your book; otherwise don't waste your time unless you like to be bewildered. This book is like a 12 cylinder engine never running on more than two cylinders at any time.
Something plausible and interesting, unlike Ms. Taylor's.
She did OK; I had no problem with the narration; but the content? Oh, my word!
Not that I could find. Although the story is confusing, there is an overpowering theme of morbidity. The sophomoric human romance did not combine well with the morbid theme.
I think I've said enough.
