No. The narrator did not do a great job with the herione. She came across very whiny. Also, the story attempted to make the herione out to be some sort of liberated woman, but it wasn't convincing.
Why did Nicolas forget everything when he returned but Douglas remembers? Why did Douglas come forward with her clothes but Nicolas came in his armor - I didn't think Nicolas was wearing armor in his jail cell.
Robert was just silly and completely unrealistic. Why would a liberated woman stay with him.
I kept trying to imagine this as a movie but I don't think the story has enough depth for a movie.
I am very surprised I enjoyed this book so much. It is corny at times, but I laughed and yes, occasionally felt tears eyed.
JD did a wonderful job of pulling me into the story. No matter how many times I rolled my eyes and said, "If Douglas cries ONE MORE TIME..." I found I couldn't wait to get in the car and find out what happened!
You won't be disappointed with this fun, totally imaginative story.
The story is ok but the narrator was whiney when performing the female voice. I did not like it.
If you like super corny love and time travel stories this is for you. I did listen to the whole book, so it wasn't completely unworthy, but then I felt a little icky afterward! Would never admit I listened to this book and certainly would not recommend it.
I fell I love with this book years ago when it first came out and 25 other people read it after me loving it just as much as I did. Today I love it even more. The way Steve West narrated made it come even more alive that reading it myself. Thank you.
JD's very best!
No, but I enjoyed him immensley and will not hesitate to listen to his other works. Good job Steve!
I had a lot of emotions reading this book. It is one of the things I love about JD and Steve West is a fine actor.
I read and loved this book in hard cover and was excited to find an unabridged audio version!
I purchased the abridged version two years ago and was extremely disappointed in both the narrator and the amount of editing that was done to shorten the story.
When I read the reviews about the narrator in this version I was a bit concerned but, I have to say, I enjoyed the performance of Steve West much more than I did that of Stephanie Zimbalist in the abridged version.
This is the Knight in Shining Armor I read and fell in love with back in 1989!
I've read and owned a lot of books in my years - the story was okay but this female had to be the weakest idiot I've ever read about!!!
The story is good if you like time traveling fantasy and romance. I enjoy this kind of stories. This one is good in the way that presents both sides of a coin. Meaning that you can experience our century through the wondrous eyes of someone from the past and then see Elizabethan Era through our modern eyes with the ambivalence that the portray of those times give us from the 21st. Century. The part I did not like of the story is the weeping maiden...The stereotype of the "DOORMAT WOMAN". Despite that, the story is enjoyable. WHAT IS AWFUL is the NARRATION!
Let me explain myself. As an audiobook fan I respect and appreciate narrators. But I found out that there is the RIGHT & WRONG narrator for each story. So, Mr. S. West does read nicely the descriptive parts of the story, and even the male voices are ok, BUT really, when he does the female voices it isn't pretty to say the least. I kept rolling my eyes and feeling kind of embarrassed, since the part sounded...I don't know, silly, stupid. I believe there are male narrator that can do female voices much better, and/or female narrators that can do male voices not badly. OR...what I like best: BOTH, FEMALE AND MALE NARRATOR.
Alas, a good story down because of a wrong choice of narrator.
I love all genres of books. However, when I listen to audio books as I clean, garden, drive they are better with a lot of heat!
This is my first J Deveraux book. The begining was hard to put up with. I hated for the heroine to be so weak of character. However, as the story progressed, I was able to experience her change step by step until she became a strong and confident woman. This is a story of hope and love that surpasses all barriers of time. I also enjoyed the small bits of historical fact regarding everyday living in Elizabethan times. I usually like a bit more spice in the books I listen to but there was enough to make the book a good listen. For a time travel story, it was an enjoyable one. I'll probably be buying more Deveraux novels.
