Love a good romance
One of the best I have read so far would make a great movie a step up from Somewhere In Time
At the end will say no more
too many to list
This is a must if you are into romance the only down was although the narrator was great with mens voices I had to really get over him with womens voices not good
Sassy dialogue, humor, and a great reader are important to me.
yes, this is ms Garwood famous classic. Yes, our heroine comes off weak, but our hero more than makes up for it. Ms Garwoods earlier writings were what made her famous.
"my soul will find yours"
All Garwood or Core romance readers have read the book. Mr West, just brings this story to life as listeners like to hear it, not just read it.
this one makes you get a tissue
Many core readers have kept this book and have been waiting for a good reader in the unabridged version. If only Audible could get Judith McNaught unabridged works or Kathleen Woodiwess. Such a shame the core classics are being missed.
What a great story! After reading the reviews I had to listen to this, and was not disappointed! I thought it would last me two weeks of my commute, but had to finish the second half in 2 days to see what happened. Would recommend to anyone who relishes a great love story!
I love all genres of books. However, when I listen to audio books as I clean, garden, drive they are better with a lot of heat!
This is my first J Deveraux book. The begining was hard to put up with. I hated for the heroine to be so weak of character. However, as the story progressed, I was able to experience her change step by step until she became a strong and confident woman. This is a story of hope and love that surpasses all barriers of time. I also enjoyed the small bits of historical fact regarding everyday living in Elizabethan times. I usually like a bit more spice in the books I listen to but there was enough to make the book a good listen. For a time travel story, it was an enjoyable one. I'll probably be buying more Deveraux novels.
annoying... I remember reading this book when I was a teenager and I absolutely loved it. It was romantic and I truly enjoyed the time travel aspect of it.
However, revisiting this book in my late twenties I can't find anything relatable about the main character Douglass. Call it growing up and coming into my own but I found Douglass to be frustrating to no end. This woman cries way too much to be believable. She spends a lot of time being trampled on and crying about it. I wanted her to have some backbone and to stop falling apart emotionally every time things didn't go her way or someone said something out of the way to her. I'm surprised the woman wasn't dehydrated by the end of the book with the amount of crying she did.
Additionally, it is a little dated for the modern reader/listener which was a little bit of a turn off but overall I enjoyed the actual plot of the book. If you can get past the weak "onion eyed" heroine then by all means, but I can't say I'd recommend this book for anyone who is easily annoyed by an overly sensitive leading lady who doesn't seem to overcome her crying until...wait she never over comes it, nevermind.
I read and loved this book in hard cover and was excited to find an unabridged audio version!
I purchased the abridged version two years ago and was extremely disappointed in both the narrator and the amount of editing that was done to shorten the story.
When I read the reviews about the narrator in this version I was a bit concerned but, I have to say, I enjoyed the performance of Steve West much more than I did that of Stephanie Zimbalist in the abridged version.
This is the Knight in Shining Armor I read and fell in love with back in 1989!
The narrator was great, voice was calm and I felt connected to the story. This book was amazing and beyond what I was expecting. I love romance and time travel too. This book will be in my top 10 of all time... I think I'm going to read it again!!
Very nearly. Will definitely find out more before I purchase any other book.
The main character
I found this book title on a list of the 10 best historical romances, a list that included Jane Eyre and Pride and Prejudice! I immediately bought the audio book and found upon listening that I had read the book before. I loved Steve West's performance. It made a book that I slightly remembered into one that I will not forget. It WAS a fantastic story!
Absolutely, it is great, interesting story, great reader
Keeps you entertained, Ms Deveraux's books can be a little too long but this one in particular just keeps you glued to the story
All of them where the two main characters are trying to get to know each other but don't say all that's on their mind
Yes but that's impossible, toooooo long
