"Edge of your seat Thriller"
Yes, listening to the story especially a thriller gives a edge to a story, I've found I can't listen quick enough lol.
One of them was when two girls were visiting & the swishing noise had started I was sure they were going to be killed, great stuff.
The young boy Maurice who grows up to be a man & has a big part in the story.
I can't remember laughing but I was so upset about the little boy Cam & at how they treated the children at the school I got really annoyed with that.
I really enjoyed the book it was really good, the correct narrator was used so it all had a nice flow to it. Loved it x
"got me from the start."
Loved the whole mixture. Love, spooky, sinister, everything.brilliant.
The choice of characters. Very interesting.
His whole character was just brilliant.
He is a very emotional character.
It was good! Melodramatic, but a very good example of the genre.
The wife was the best character - she was very realistic and her experiences had damaged her
No - I was happy to listen to a few chapters at a time.
I'm tempted to buy another James Herbert!!!
A really good read with the tension mounting in almost every chapter.Suitable stopping places were few and far between.I read it on the beach while relaxing and it was not a read to relax fully too.
totally enthralling, just couldn't stop listening (much to my family's annoyance).the ending even made me shed a tear! Will certainly look for more books read by David Rintoul, he put so much feeling into the narration.
"A good spooky read"
I read the book and watched the movie. (BBC). This certainly is a good book and I was caught reading this at midnight as I wanted to finish it. A book well worth reading
"Pleasure for the ears"
Listened to this while commuting to work in the car, David Rintouls narration combined with the excellent writing of James Herbert left me sitting in the car long after the journey had finished.
Chilling ghost story with oodles of suspense and intrigue.
If this is not your usual genre give it a try and if you think it fits your listening profile you should not be disappointed.
completely blown away by this book, I read a few James Herbert books as a teenager and loved them but never picked them up as I got older, something I now regret. Its seems all the way to his dying day he pumped out the most intense fantastic riveting stories. throughout this book and with the aid of an absolutely superb narrator the story came to life and will stay with me for a long time. I'd even go as far as to suggest this to be if you're thinking about starting Herbert's novels that this be your first. I don't like to go in to plot in reviews but believe me when I say this book is simply fantastic, the ending leaving me with near on tears in my eyes.
"Edge of seat read"
This book is full of surprises, you really don't know what's coming up next. The book is a little spooky in places but not overly scary. I loved it and it has a great ending too.
"Outstanding narration, brilliant story."
Quite simply the best audiobook I have listened to. The narration was outstanding. I had to keep listening to the end, I found it very difficult to put down. Brilliant.
