"Excellent this being my only second audio book."
I'm a person with dyslexia, at the age of 57, I honestly can't say I've ever read a book cover to cover. What made this so enjoyable was the Townsend narrating the entire book. My first audio book was Life (Keith Richards) I enjoyed it but the downside Keith only, only read a little at the beginning and end. Johnny Depp read half the book, then here's the letdown the last half of the book was narrated by some joker reading the book in the third person. Trying to come across as Keith himself. Second of all I purchased this CD's. 24 to the exact. audible.com is fantastic I can enjoy listening on my iPad in the car, or play it on my PC at home. Kudos I find this just as enjoyable as listening to the music of my generation. Why I never tried this before is beyond me. I highly recommend this book of Pete Townsend to everyone. To me it's like listening to a almost 18 hour song very enjoyable.
just hearing Pete Townsend read the entire book, this man lived it so who better to hear from.
at the moment, I can't answer this question, only about halfway into the book
definitely made me laugh more than once.
will be certainly, buying more I'm also joined the membership program, I also highly recommend that also
save the teens
"Rock stars!"
No! This book dragged on for way too long. I kept hoping the Townsend would give me some reason to like him but it never happened. Perhaps if someone else had narrated, I would have liked him better.
Different narrator.
Ho-hum, dull, so-so
no!
I suppose if you're a huge Who fan, then you'll appreciate this book more than I. I wanted to learn more about Townsend and the band but instead I ended up not liking him as a person at all. Spoiled, cheating, arrogant rock star!
"Gripping read of one of rock's true genuis'"
To hear an authors story read by the author provides greater insight into understanding the emotion behind the issues discussed.
"A good listen"
A fan of The Who for many years I never knew the origins of a lot of the music. This book filled a lot of gaps and answered questions I didn't know I had about The Who. Spoken with honesty it is refreshing to hear events unfold that are not particularly flattering to the author as well as the good stuff. It could only have been read by Pete Townsend.
"Loved It!!!!"
Pete telling is own story is nothing but raw emotion
Learning the turth
all of them
I am amazed at the man behind the genius. I appreciate him so much more now
Listen to this book! Can't imagine reading it rather than hearing it in his own voice
"Good job- read by the author"
It makes such a difference when an author reads his own autobiography. PT does a great job. He always comes across as super-earnest; here he rounds it out with some context so he doesn't always seem to be bubbling over with raw emotion. He gives a good account of what it felt like to move through the world as the guitarist for the Who in the 60's.
"A good history of Pete & The Who"
This book ranks somewhere in the middle of the pack.
When the original drummer had to be asked to step down.
Any scene involving Keith Moon
I was surprised at the honesty. Pete showed himself as completely wacked out at times and then he was a compassionate human being at other times.
Who fan my whole life and found this book a real treat. Any fan of the rock and roll 60's/70's will get a kick out of this book. Pete not so much reads the book but he tells his story like he's sitting and talking just to the listener.
"Loved It!"
Yes, Definately!
Honesty
I loved listening to Pete read the book. When he chuckled at some of the stories, it made it more personal. Like he was sitting there telling you personally the story.
Pete's telling of the loss of Keith Moon & John Entwistle
"Interesting, but long"
Listening to Pete read it. He has a pleasant voice and lightens it up by chuckling every now and then.
Abridge it.
His voice. I couldn't help but hearing Pete Townsend solo album songs in my head after hearing his voice for 18 hours. Makes me want to download all of his solo albums.
No.
In hindsight, I would have listened to the abridged version as it was just a bit long (18-19 hours), but the time did go by quickly.
