As I have stated in previous reviews I only buy audios of books that I have read and really like. Reading the book kicks in my own imagination adding an element to the story that you cant get in audio format. This makes the "narration" so important in audiobooks. A bad narrator can destroy a great book.
Jack (so intense) and I cant quite figure him out,
When Evie takes off on her own to rescue Matthew and Jack follows her.
Surprise!! at how much I enjoyed the book and the audio.
Emma Galvin did a great job with all the characters both male and female. The story line is like a cross between "The Hunger Games" series and Jennifer Armentrouts "Lux" series. Both of those series were great by the way.
Poison Princess is one of the best of it's genre. I was totally engaged from the beginning and I'm so glad it's a series. As a "seasoned" adult, YA novels are a hit or miss with me. The storyline and dialogue have to be sophisticated enough to hold my attention, even though I know I'm not the target audience. Kresley Coles' writing does just that. Add Emma Gavin, one of my favorite young female narrators and this was a 5 star listen for me!!
I can't wait to read what happens in Book 2 of this series!!
love audio books - Anglophile
The prologue had me a little worried, but once I got into Chapter 1, I was hooked. Great story line, dialogue, and hair-raising adventure. The use of the Tarot's major arcana is brilliant. I really prefer this series to her adult series - no drawn out sexual speed bumps getting in the way of the story. I liked it so much I immediately downloaded the sequel, Endless Knight. I'm going to check out more of the teen and young adult books - this is my kind of story!
I love KC's IAD series for all it's intense love scenes and paranormal activity, however, this series are for Young Adult readers in which the love scenes are dyed down into high school romances and the paranormal activity is increased by a different set of magical taro cards that describe mystical characters...too many characters.
During the first part of the book the story hooks you in by this guy acting as a hospitiable host but really he's a psycho mad scientist that traps innocent girls in the basement and uses them for experiments. When he lures Evie into his house she tells him a story about how she survives "the Flash" which is a apocalypse that wipes out Earth and is left with boogie men (vampire like creatures) and rebellious armies of canabils or wannabe soldiers. Evie and her beau struggle to survive the aftermath of distruction but she gets seperated from him and tries to find her way back to her grandmother who might have the answers as to why she predicted the Flash and how she developed certain powers. She finds bits and pieces of her grandma's tales of how she's a part of these taro cards and how there's a war coming in which she has to choose sides and fight.
Evie's first part of her back story is totally irrelevant to the whole story and just added more unnecessary characters. Evie is protrayed as a young, naive gal who had high school friends that were eliminated during the flash. The rest of the story after the flash is relevant and only describes bits and pieces of the 22 taro characters who's either friend or foe.
It's an overall good story but drawn out at some parts. I'm debating on whether or not to go forward to the next book or return this one. This book didn't keep my attention like her other series did.
This is one of the best series i have ever listened to hands down. im only sad it took me this long t find this book.
I loved the spot on narration, which perfectly suited the incredible story. I have been rechecking regularly for book two. The two narrators , Emma Galvin and Keith Nobbs, gave me shivers with their ability to draw me into the book. I felt like I was there, watching the story unfold before my mind's eye.
I couldn't guess what was coming, which is my litmus test for a good book.
ALL OF IT! Amazing!
I found myself listening with the lights on...parts of it really had me goosed. Really. I got goosebumps and chills, but also found myself laughing out loud and wanting to cheer.
Kresley Cole has become my favorite author. With this book, I consider her one of the most incredible character creators out there. Such imagination. Thanks for taking my mind on that journey!
Crazy red head who's head over heels about family, friends and life in general!
I like reading young adult when I feel the need for a good story and this book most definitely did not disappoint. Young Evie and Jack come from different proverbial sides of the track and are thrown together after the "flash" for a journey of discovery and survival. As Evie grows into her powers from a wallflower to Empress of the Arcana, Jack takes her on the ride of her life, literally and figuratively. Their connection is undeniable as they try to fight attraction, self doubt and raw teenage emotions. All this while fighting off the voices in her head, killing zombies, thwarting bad guys, dealing with the death of their families and a deadly game where only one Arcana will come out on top. The story has interesting characters that are all very different. The plot is well laid, the relationships are well developed and the story is thought provoking. Kudos Kresley for reaching outside your regular writing to bring us this wonderful story. Now, my one complaint. I just wish I'd waited a few more days to listen because the second book isn't out yet!
I love Kresley Cole, but I'm not a big fan of young adult novels so I was pleasantly surprised when the story hooked me from the first. It had a refreshing lack of the whiny angst that I had come to associate with YA. Emma Galvin did a great job. I loved her husky, youthful sound. She really brought the story to life for me.
I'm recommending this book to everyone!! It's AMAZING!!!
I loved this book and I keep looking for the next one in the series.
Absolutely! Loved this book and the tension she created was wonderful!
I would not compare it! I think that is why I enjoyed this book so much, because it was so different than what seems to be saturating the market lately!
The pool scene hands down!
The moment the Alchemist discovered who he was!
Love this! Can't wait for Endless Knight!
