In my opinion, a good story evokes emotion. It'll make me laugh, angry, or cry. But it can't just be words on a page. It has to do something
I wrote a review before one this one, but I am retracting it. As the story progressed, it became riveting. I couldn't hardly put it down. While at first I hated the narrator's voice, I found it more tolerable as the characters and storyline developed. I feel the story is original and is something that I would like to see more of. Kresley Cole is a great writer and its refreshing to see this type of twist to her writing style. The only question is, where on earth are the other parts to this trilogy????? When are they coming out????
A good book, but somewhat slow for me, kept waiting for where the story was going, and the plot to start... Might read second book, but will not be in a hurry to do so. I believe K Cole has written some amazing stories, and can't wait to go back to the IAD!
It's hard to say because I've listened to so many and I have a bunch of favorites, but right now this and book 2 are at the top of my list.
Everything, the story was unique and captivating, I listened to book 1 in a day and then immediately downloaded book 2 and listened to that in a day, both nights I barely slept, couldn't stop listening and now I'm heartbroken that book 3 won't be released until January 2015!
I can't remember if I have or not... I liked Emma Galvin but have liked other narrators more.
I held off buying this book for a long time, I have really enjoyed Kresely Cole's other books and Kresely is one of my favorite authors, the YA label made me hesitate for years, literally, and I have immediately purchased all of Kresely Cole's audiobooks as soon as they are released, except for this one. I shouldn't have hesitated! Actually the 2 books in the series so far are my all time Kresely favorites, which is saying a lot. Don't let the YA fool you, it's an amazing adventure and I don't read YA books anymore but I used to and these 2 were possibly the raciest YA books I've come accros!
Ok, when I first got this book on a recommendation, I was worried it would be cheesy so it took me a while to actually listen to it. Once I did start it, I couldn't stop! I was so captivated after "the flash" that I would listen for hours at a time, just waiting to see what would happen next. The tension and heat between Jack and Evie was hot! Wow! Nicely done. Narration was great too!
I'm not sure. I don't think I would. Jackson and Evie sort of drove me crazy. Jackson is a violent alcoholic who really needs to learn self-wroth and Evie... is weak, a cheerleader who can't even cook.
Their performance was really great. I mean some of the characters sounded a little too similar but on a whole, I enjoyed them. I like that their voices were enough alike that when they jumped from one to the other, you could still tell who was speaking.
For the most part, the jury is out on this. I didn't love it but I'm still curious as to what is going to happen next. The slight twist at the end is nice but... I'll read the next book. Hopefully Evie and Jackson get better. Right now, he comes off as an abusive husband in the making and Evie is the perfect setup for a battered housewife in denial... My main concern will be girls reading these and thinking that's okay...
The new story line, apocalypse idea isn't new but the twists and paranormal anomalies are.
Not a lot to compare to... has a little hunger game feel, last one standing thing going on, but it has a pretty original feeling, for me at least.
Give this book a try its fun, sexy, emotional and packed full of mystery.
Yes. This book is so original and a complete surprise. It takes a bit to get into it, but once there I could not stop listening to it.
Evie and then Jack
No, but i plan on checking more out.
Listened to the second one. Can't believe I have to wait for the next one.
"My test of a good book is dreading to begin the last chapter." - Thomas Helm
Firstly, I really like the narrater Emma Galvin.
I debated this series because I thought it was about tarot cards and I'm not into that sorta thing. However, it's based on the identities of each tarot card being a real person (teen) who must play to the "death" in a game that happens each century. I've enjoyed this book so much when I finished listening at 1 am I bought the second book and started it.
Worth your time & credit/money if your into the YA / fantasy stuff.
Totally addicted to books: written or spoken! To read or to listen...? Both please!
I was surprised how much I liked it. A bit slow in the beginning, but over all good. A bit of a surprise ending. Can't wait to read more.
YES!! This series is extremely well written. Best book I have read (listened) to in a long time. A must read. Only issue I have is having to wait for the 3rd book to come out. I literally cannot stop thinking about this series. Buy it now! :)
Too many to count. Never a dull moment. Unpredictable... Did I mention you should buy this book now.
They were perfect! I am extremely picky about the readers... A bad reader can ruin a perfectly good book & both did a fantastic Job.
Who cares..... Just please make it into a film!!
