Oh, so many things... I found the heroine exasperating and unconvincing (gods of romance, please, please let her grow a spine). The character of the antihero unfortunately garnered neither depth nor dimension from his prenchant for whores or evident foot fetish. The narration was flat, uninspired, and quite painfully s-l-o-w. Frequently pubescent and demeaning imagery, particularly with reference to the heroine (alternately likenened to either a "little kitten" or rabbit) was the final straw.
Why would Mr. Morgan choose to s-l-o-w down a project which he so obviously did not enjoy? Listening was nearly painful. I did try "2X"ing the speed, but it wasn't enough to get me through even half of the book.
Irritation and disappointment, I wanted it to be so much more than it actually was.
Save your credit.
Like the romance, but love the action involved to get there!
While searching for something to follow 50 shades, but written better, I saw several references to this book and its sequel…so NOT what I thought it would be. I will admit that the story was theoretically sweet, with more mature references to fine art and adult romance, but the story seemed to go on forever, and was totally unbelievable in spots with characters going against their core nature for no specific reason other than it continued the plot. I was looking for the hotness I got in fifty shades, and got hours upon hours of BORING drab. I listened to this book and its sequel, not wanting to be one of those people that rated a book without listening to it fully, and I found both to be VERY lacking. If you want a follow up to 50 try “Bared to You” by Sylvia Day, “Beautiful Disaster” by Jamie McGuire, “Thoughtless” by SC Stephens and Olivia Cunnings “Sinners on Tour”, don’t get these books.
Just great could not put in down - Great characters, great strory. A Must read-listen!
Amazing love story.
Gabriel. A tragic life style with the hope of redemption.
A beautiful voice! I loved listening to him.
Redemption through love.
I love this book and also finished the second one. Can't wait for the thrid.
the Narrator and the cat and mouse feeling
can't think of one
the fight between the ex and gabriel
John Morgan's voice is sooooooooo sexy and deep
The slow building of the story and the relationship between Gabriel and his Beatrice.
I found this book in a local book store in the "If you liked 50 Shades of Grey" section. Instead of buying a paper copy I bought it here on audible. It is similar in that both men are totally in love with the woman and would do anything for her.
This is my first John Morgan book and I would not hesitate to listen a another book of his narration. He is outstanding.
I loved the story from the first page. The one part that I still chuckle about is the part in the book where after an intense make out session Gabriel rushes to take a second shower and Julia stands there wondering why and then figures out what he is doing in there. Laughted out loud at that one.
I did not listen to this book until I had bought the sequel as I hate to wait to start the next one. I will be starting THAT one as soon as I finish this review, which is now. Happy Listening, you're going to love this book.
I liked that it was set in Toronto, which isn't a common city for a plot based in an academic setting. I do think that the main female character should have been better developed. I found her to be so mousy, meek and inexperienced that it was not plausible that she was also a brilliant student who had been accepted by Harvard, and by a well-known professor as a thesis advisor. I struggled to resolve this contradiction as I listened to the book.
Excellent voice for narration. He brought out the strong character of the professor, yet also managed to capture the young and inexperienced personality of the female lead.
The story was good but I like more erotic hot scenes.
The Sweet Series by M. Banks
Too deep for female characters
Wow! This is an excellent book! I read the Kindle eBook and loved the story. I couldn't stop reading the book. I stayed up late each night reading the book. Purchase the book you will not be disappointed.
This is one of the worst audiobooks I have ever encountered. In fact, I couldn't even finish the first installment. The characters are ridiculous and the story is silly. The female protagonist is still a virgin 5 hours into the book- and this from a book in the Erotica section! Save your money and your time.
