It had been over 10 years since I last read The Hobbit. So nice to come home to old friends! There were several characters and events that I had completely forgotten. Such a pleasure to get reacquainted.
I can't tell you how excited I was to finally see Audible offer the LOTR series narrated by Rob Inglis! He is an incredible narrator equally proficient in character voices and general narration. I own the trilogy on CD but have really wanted to add it to my Audible collection for greater portability. Thank you!
If it wasn't a challenge, it wouldn't be worth doing.
I loved that it was both a fantastic story AND great for most ages. There was no swearing, no sex, nothing that an older child couldn't listen to. Yet, it was an amazing story.
The original story was something I couldn't get into, I owned the book for years and never got into it. Ingles was able to bring the characters to life and truly read the story it was meant to be read. I loved it!
The Hobbit is a fantastic journey and undoubtedly a classic. The story is wonderfully written and the narration is fantastic. The songs are very well sung and there is enough variation in tone and accent to keep the listener entranced. This is truly a masterpiece and I can give it no end of praise.
I love clean books of all sorts. Love mysteries, fantasies epic to kids stories, fairy tales, romances, humor, and historical fiction
We Love the Rob Inglis version of the Hobbit. I love the songs that he sings. Most are really great. He does a fantastic job. My children and my whole family love this version. Most people won't need a review of the story. This is a great version to listen to on long car trips. Our relatives live in other states so the trips can be VERY long. One of the very best in classic fantasy books. Probably not for children below 8 although my husband read it to our children when they were in about first grade. The only real lead in necessary for The Lord of the Rings which is definitely for older teenage and pre-teen children and above. My husband reads these books almost every year. They are old friends. This audiobook is mine. It is one of the reasons I joined Audible and I'm pleased as punch to own it so it will work easily on listening devices. Now if we could just find our own hobbit hole.....
Yes because I was sad when the journey ended.
Bilbo, without a doubt, because he did what he had to do not what was easy or comfortable for him.
No I haven't. I hope he does more. He did a great job.
Just when it ended. Like Bilbo, i was longing for more after it was over. It is a great story.
Easily the best narration of any of the books I've read. And of course the classic story needs no introduction. A modern classic of the English language.
Iv only listened to the the one. So I cant say. But it is great entertainment.
The fellowship of the rings
He brings it to life! Almost as if I was with them on there quest.
Yes. But it was far to long. Great for late nights by the fire.
Say something about yourself!
Rob Inglis is masterful in narrating and bringing to life this classic masterpiece!
Yes! I actually own this in CDs but purchased this for my son to listen to. But I remember my husband and I listening and staying up late spellbound.
If you ever wondered what the big deal is about the Hobbit or tried to read it as a youngster...get this audio! It, along with the LOTR audiobooks are my favorites!
I love listening to books. It has given me the ability to devour books without the guilt of sitting for hours. Bilbo Baggins was my companion on vacuuming, dishwashing, laundry folding and he made it effortless. This is not the usual genre I choose, but as I have heard that JRR Tolkien is a wonderful writer I decided to try it out. His writing style is flawless, he has a command of the english language like few others. The performance by Rob Inglis brought each character to life. It was a vivid and amazing adventure. I enjoyed it so much that my aversion to Lord of Rings was washed away and I can't wait to start listening to it tonight (while I am waiting for my boys to finish karate practice.)
Listened to The Hobbit after seeing the movie to get a better understanding of the characters. It was fun to use the imagers from the movies to put with the characters and their voices. The reading was excellent. I had only read children's Tolkien books so it was fun to hear an unabridged version and to understand why they are such great classics.
