It's a must read for every man out there. Do everyone a favour: understanding this.
I think listening to the audio version added to the book because you could hear the accent that Caitlin Moran wrote the book with. Sometimes when a writer has a different accent than the reader, the word choices don't completely make sense because different areas of the world use different sayings and slang.
Caitlin Moran is very frank and gets into some really personal areas of her life. Some of these areas can be very cringe worthy but she handles them with humor and understanding that not everyone will agree with her.
I like that her passion comes through in her performance.
If you are easily offended or have trouble with slang and curse words, this book is not for you. If you like it when people give it to you straight and are really honest about hard topics, you will get a lot of use out of this book.
I honestly couldn't get too far in this because the narrator kept changing volume, which meant it went from calm monologue to loud yells sporadically. To save my ears, I quit.
I want all my friends to read this book! I often dislike when authors read their own book, but Caitlan ROCKS this book and makes it even better. I'm so glad I listened to this book rather than read it!
...I love listening!
I shouldn't have waited so long to listen to this- I loved her first book and should have just trusted I would like this one as much. I have a lot of love for Caitlin Moran after hearing this book. She makes you feel good about being who you are, a flawed human- but in ways you're not used to.
I really love her ideas about SO many things, but my new fave may be a little bit of a problematic fave. I REALLY wish she didn't compare sexism with racism in the ways she does. That and a few other things made me feel a little sad, but I think any book that delves into such controversial topics will have trouble being perfectly aligned with everyone's thoughts. She is VERY white and VERY British. That being said, I do feel like I learned things and laughed very often listening to this book.
Some of her more humorous ideas from this book- such as you're not fat as long as you're "human shaped," and how you can tell if women's beauty standards are bull (if men do them too, or not) will stick around in my head for a long time. She has an honest, hilarious way of approaching the world that I appreciate very much!
