I like Penny Marshall's sensibilities- I can relate...and I loved that she read the book herself, it would have been wrong to listen to it any other way. She's very cool and real. Loved the inside "scoop" on movies and relationships :)
fast fun read. now have great awe and respect for penny. I think she would also be annoyed that you have to write at least 20 words in your review
I enjoyed listening to Penny reminisce about growing up in the Bronx. Her stories are heartwarming and she obviously loves her family and friends .
What an amazing life Penny Marshall has led, and is still living! She is truly a trailblazer, a national treasure, and to hear her tell her story in that self-deprecating, hilarious, iconic accent of hers is thoroughly entertaining and inspiring. I can't wait to get my "Laverne and Shirley" complete series box set in the mail and watch it with my children, as well as the feel-
good movies like "Big", "A League of their Own" and "Renaissance Man" which I remember fondly from my youth.
Penny Marshall definitely seems to be down to earth in the book despite her celebrity status.
Yes, I sure would! Penny Marshall tells her own story as only she can. She has a very recognizable voice and tone. The story would not at all be awesome if someone else was telling her story!
Uh, Penny of course.
There were so many! Hard to say!
I had no idea Penny Marshalls' life was, well, nuts. (Not just her mom.) The story begins on a crazy and fascinating note and just gets better. I couldn't stop listening. What a life she has had! I would listen to this again.
She is hilarious and brash and everything I'd hoped. This book was so much better, read by her. (I wish I could type with her fab Bronx accent!) the stories of movies she directed (all of which I'd loved) and of Laverne & Shirley were a treat. She told it like it was--warts and all. Who knew after reading this, she'd seem like a statesman. A hilarious statesman.
I live for audiobook autobiographies read by famous ladies. It's so much my favorite hobby that I co-host a podcast called LadyWatch all about female entertainers over 50 years old. Penny Marshall's is absolutely my new favorite. Not only is her story hilarious, fascinating and inspiring, her performance on the audiobook is truly moving. Her genuine emotion seeps through and it becomes instantly clear why she is so adored in Hollywood. Absolutely wonderful. Thank you Penny!
I love reading for pleasure and obtaining new insights. Audible is perfect for me /visual issues. Thanks listeners for helpful reviews!
Lacking in depth & although she is the author, Ms. Marshall does a C- at reading it (being generous here).
If id have known i could return a book before it was too late, THIS would be ONE of only two books I disliked this much.
