This book just didn't do it for me. I thought the plot line of this one was a little weak to be honest. I have liked every other book in the series and the grimnoir chronicles is an amazing series, but I just could not wait for this book to be over. I feel I have a vested interest in this series, and that is honestly the only reason why I finished. I felt like this was just a filler book to get you to the next part of the series, and really didn't add a lot for me. The action is cool as always, and I like the characters, hence why I gave the book 3 stars. I wish I could say something more than just I was underwhelmed, but that would be the word I use to describe this book.
Nothing like a great book when on the move.
So, there I was, really enjoying this series when the writer insisted on giving me the Fox News bites of the world. Darn it!! I just wanted some shot-it-up-mind-numbing fun in a safe non-drink or think way and the constant Obama-bashing-come-get-my-gun-from-my-rotting-corpse-BS effn killed it. If I have to get the bites, I'm out. Enjoyed the series, and I love a good debate, but the didactic nature of this is a NOGO for me. If that does not deter you, you'll abosolutely love the book. As always the narrator is perfect.
If you are looking for a fun guy read this in it. Just pick it up read and go for a ride. No deep thinking, nothing to analyze just relax and follow along.
Married, middle-age, owner of 2 dogs, 2 cats, and a messy house.
This is written a lot like books 1 and 2, with a very good story and complicated monsters. The only thing that bothers me is his books are getting shorter! I like a good long story.
Most of the characters make an appearance, the underlying story of who the really big bad monster behind all of this becomes a little more clear, and lots and lots of crazy monsters pop out of every corner. Yes, even a dragon! Owen and the other hunters have to find out what the main monster is and how to kill it, while secret government agencies refuse to help, even though this monster may be the fault of one of those agencies. Franks show some surprising initiative. I think my favorite part might be all the complaining about the ice sculpture, though.
Unfortunately, Correia has gone back to having a major cliff hanger at the end, and since book 5 isn't out yet, I find myself having to be patient. I hope he writes fast. And makes the stories last a little longer!
This was really good. But it wasn't able to match the "epicness" of the second book. Also some of the characters i really enjoyed from the 3rd book were underused. I felt that the ending felt really rushed. I don't really understand why each book in the series is getting shorter and shorter.
I was a 'readaholic' for most of my life. I started crochet and other hobbies. That took away from my reading time. I discovered audio books at the library. That set me off. now, that I am older my eyes make it too difficult to read. So I now am a very diligent audio book listener!
Fun & interesting.
Yes I would recommend this audiobook. The only problem is that this a series that follows each other kinda close. It should follow book 01 for better understanding.
His voice fitted the main character as I imagined.
I enjoyed this book,
I'm a Wife, Mom and I own my own store. I love books but have precious little time to read. Audible reads them for me!
At the top! This is one of my favorite 'new' series!
The main character is fabulous! And how he deals with the monsters, sometimes its just hilarious!
The narrator is perfect for this role.
Hello, my name is Teresa and I'm an addict.
Gotta love the creativity of Larry Correia, he takes you in the opposite way you think he will and he comes up with some bizarre monsters. Then he takes the plain old boring monsters of everyday and makes them have the crazy human traits that we all have or know somebody who has them. Traits that we love to watch reality shows about. I was glad that I read the Tanya, Princess of the Elves from his web site before I read this book. It's a short story of how Edward and Tanya met, a fun read.
