It started out pretty interesting, but degenerated into a less than average police novel. Anyone can envision an interesting premise, but what makes a good author is the ability to follow through with a good and interesting story...unfortunately, this one did not meet my expectations.
The narrator was fine.
Not really. I did finish it, but was wishing it was over for quite some time before it was.
I don't know if I would have liked the story more with a different reader or not. The story was kind of dumb, but the reader made it worse.
I like J.D. Robb books but this narrator kind of ruined it. She did the worst Irish accent I've ever heard and she made the rest of the characters sound stupid.
no, I couldn't make it past the first few chapters. I thought this was a love story not a gory murder mystery.
I bought this book based on the rave reviews because I love mystery & thrillers. I haven't read any of the other books in the series as other readers have, so I'm not familiar about the characters, story lines, etc.
There were things mentioned in the story that I just didn't get...J.D. Robb kept using the terms "links" as I suspected the equivalent of a cell phone. Why didn't she just used normal terminologies? Did I miss something? After all, the story took place in NYC in modern days, right? How the heck was I supposed to know that "links" were?
Also, I wasn't impressed with the narration either. Rourke's Irish brogue made my ears twinged.
I'm only a 1/4 way through the story, but I don't know if I can finish it! Very disappointing.
The voices portrayed appeared to be very strained and Peabody's voice was the absolute worst of the group. I've purchased many audible books, by many performers, but this narrator has ruined the J.D. Robb books for me and I will not buy anymore by this "artist". She really distracts from the story line. I will continue the Death series using the visual form of entertainment. I'm never disappointed with the Robbs' written word.
I love this series but I thought I would be able to download to a disk and don't have enough time to sit and listen. I usually listen while I drive and wish it was on disc
haven't listened yet
multi-faceted, amazing, talented
don't know yet
The premise of the books are okay, but I get so annoyed with the main character, Eve Dallas, and her negative & bitchy way, that I wonder why I keep listening to this series! Is it the narrator that causes the irritation, or is it the way the character is written? Whatever, if they would just back off a bit on the character's aggression, the books would be must more listen-able.
I did not know anything about this author and went on the reviews. Not really my thing. I did not care for the narration and thought the story a bit obvious.
I would not recommend this book as it did not captivate me or intrigue me.
I look forward to all the In Death books and watch for the next. Enjoyable? Always a new story line. Keeps me listening. Love to guess who the murderer is.
