"Great story, good narration but the music...."
I like this story, Mr King does small town horror better than anyone else and it's great to have him read it but why did they put incidental music in it? It's like the music from a late-70s kids TV show. Luckily there isn't enough to ruin the story but it totally throws you out of the narrative every time it pops up.
"Sound effects ruin the preformace"
The story is good as you'd expect fro Steven King, and the narrator is good if unremarkable. The performance struggles due to the random on and off sound effects that rarely reflect what is happening in the story. It will be an intense moment and suddenly circus music kicks in for no understandable reason and 10 seconds later is gone
"not his best"
good narration, didn't like the music and sound effects. story really not up to kings normal standard.
The build up was better than the ending, excellent characterisation.
Discovering what each person needed the most
No, did it in a couple of days.
Very good story and well narrated. Not as long as some King epics and it didn't suffer from that.
Despite being a big Stephen King fun and really enjoying reading some of the classics like the stand and Salem's Lot I really didn't enjoy this one at all. The plot seemed a bit thin and i found the whole thing uncharacteristically hokey.
And not one of Mr King's best efforts in my opinion!
to be honest i saw the film way back was disappointed, the book is another thing. Its a true Stephen King story, full of imagination and horror, just perfect.
"shame about the 90s music"
loved this book. took me a while to get into but once I did, gee whizz it was goid. loved Stephen kings performance.shame about the 1990s music over the audio.
"King remains the Maine man"
This is the first of King's books I've listened to where he narrates it himself and whilst the Maine accents are no doubt authentic it takes a little longer to get used to than established narrators. Also odd are the recurring musical motifs for different characters. Beyond that though this is another well-woven good vs evil in small-town America story, with deliciously nasty details and deadly consequences. Recommended
"Great book, perfectly read by it's author."
I read the book some years ago, then saw the film at the pictures. Now years later Stephen King brings the whole thing back to life again. He reads it well, getting into each character as, I guess, only he can. Listen to it.
"Great book, music & sound effects ruin it"
Story is great, but the God awful interlude music infuriated me and made it hard to listen to.
Only recommend if you know you won't be annoyed by that.
