I have been a fan of Lee Child long before Audible, since I'm now of fan of both, Child seems to write even better. This is a gripping story made even more interesting by the narrator (Dick Hill). Author and narrator are a good pair, Jack Reacher is a fictional character made uber interesting.
I wish Audible would provide a better product. I continually have to go back and try to find my place to listen. Audible apparently disables the ability to burn a book to even one disk so I can listen to it. The iPod just doesn't do well on audiobooks (probably unless you buy them from Apple). It is impossible to get a book burned to CD so I can listen to it and it never plays right on the iPod.
This is a typical Reacher book, keeps you interested and involved. We listen to it in the car and we almost went out to drive around just so we could listen to it! Excellent performance, especially the performance by Reacher with a broken nose, it seems almost too real.
Yes. I would still warn readers to try another Jack Reacher novel to experience Lee Child at his best
He is superb. He brings the characters alive.
Yes. I would like to see what happens when Reacher gets to Virginia
Lee Child again brings Jack Reacher to life in a big and wonderful way! The narator Dick Hill is just the best. I hope that Lee never ask anyone else to be a Jack Reacher narator.
the characters and the plot were incredibly boring and hard to follow.
hearing someone reading with a broken nose for almost the entire book was excruciating -- the other voices were not good either.
I would not have published this book
I've been buying audiobooks for years and this is the only one I would advise readers to skip.
Sorry Mr. Child but I can't believe how bad and boring this book is. Where did Jack go? No action and blinking out a "code" in the car... seriously? I've read all of the books in the series and love Jack but this was just unbearable. And the broken nose portrayal was excruciating. I will not blindly buy another Reacher book again without waiting for other reviews of the book.
I recommend that Lee Child sell the dwarf the rights to this. That way I won't have to feel bad about refusing to see the movie and all of the other Reacher gems will be safe.
Without killing the story I'd reduce the first third of the book by more than half, add half to the middle, and cut the ca-ca about the mysterious woman from Virginia. Who is this Mata Hari?
It's kind of like Mr Child "phoned it in" Way too many Reacher "norms"...serious number skills, way out deductions and it was all for moot.
Sad to say, but it was the end because I was glad it was over.
I'm a big fan of Jack Reacher and was sorely disappointed at this attempt and I do mean "attempt"
I'll buy the next Jack Reacher of course, but after that if it's not better I won't buy it the day it's released, I'll read the reviews. Mr Child, please step back up to the plate.
Tell us about yourself!
Same story - same Jack. I like the idea of Jack Reacher, but the story line needs to change. If you never read one of these books, then you are in for a treat (just pick a different one!) Sounded as if Dick Hill was in an echo chamber - otherwise, I love how Dick Hill reads the story!
A better story.
It was nice to see Reacher again.
I have to agree with many of the negative reviews for this book. If I could do this all again, I would skip this book. The story stalled somewhere in the middle and never regained its momentum. After all the build up in the car if just fell flat. All the things I really loved about Reacher seemed to be left out of this book. And what is with all the mindless travelling. I struggled to finish this one. A definite miss!
