Not normally my cup of tea but read reviews and i couldn't stop listening.
Anyone who says they are fed up with the horses being mentioned so much is an idiot, its a book about a woman who grew up with a father who trained the Queens racehorses and Mill Reef of course its going to be constantly about horses it was their life !
it is a fantastic and insightful book and enhanced by the fact Claire reads it herself thoroughly reccomend
Loved the fact that Claire read her own story.
Her approach to life through the dogs and horses.
"Brilliant!!! Thank you for sharing Clare"
Clare's voice throughout
Everything her way of describing things
How she was so clear
Oh yes death of her horse when it fell
Well worth listening to thoroughly enjoyed it all thank you Clare
Yes. A frank and funny account of Claire Balding's life
Claire's family all seemed so warm and loving so liked all the characters in her immediate family
I don't usually like Authors reading their own work but Claire really brought the story to life.
Loved it. Mostly very happy.
Really enjoyed listening to this on car journeys. Easy to follow as you didn't really have to keep up with a story line so well suited to stopping and starting.
"A good listen and laugh"
A real family feel to the book with lots of funny stories, an interesting incite to the family
Clare, as she was the main character and you felt you could see and hear her throughout the book
"Tongue in Cheek delight of a book"
Yes, this is a lovely easy listen.
The narration by Clare gives the book a really personal touch.
I think the scraps she and her brother got into together. Like most children they had the best of intentions like I am sure most children do.
I like taking my time over a book. This book was part of my book club reading list and taking time over it gives me the opportunity to consider the themes, characters and story for discussion at book club
While I am not usually a fan of biographies this was written with an tone of self deprecation and humour which makes you love Clare Balding and her family of animals.
This is read by Clare herself and she didn't keep any secrets, you really feel like part of the family.
The animals were the best part for me. I felt I knew them all by the end of the book.
This made me laugh and cry in equal measure.
Would like more. It ended too soon.
"Thought I wasn't going to like it but then I did!"
When this reading started, I thought I was going to get irritated by the constant details of horses and racing, but as it unfolded, each race or horse description was a lead in to events in Claire's life which is inextricably linked with horse training and racing. As a construct for an autobiography it really worked and I enjoyed it. Claire's reading, like her presenting skills was faultless and made my train journey feel much shorter for a few days. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this as a good listen.
I loved this book, I think it was Clare Balding reading it that made it exceptional!
I really felt part of Clare's family at times. She brought the book to life.
I would recommend this book to anyone, especially as a first audio book.
"Warm funny and engaging!"
Clare's humbleness and gentle humour.
The story revolves around animals who form parts of her life which was original and wonderful way to break up a story.
At times I found it hard to get out of the car as I wanted to finish that chapter
The story of meeting princess Anne very funny....not for her mind you....
