"Best book of 2014"
The humour and honesty of Clare. Laugh out loud moments with lots of stories of crazy relatives (don't we all have them!) and situations Clare gets herself into
The breakfast incident with the Queen
No, but will listen to her latest book soon.
I laughed and cried. She has a great way with words and a great voice as well. Also ( and importantly) she's had an interesting upbringing with lots of wonderful characters in her life.
I'd recommend this book to all. 5 stars all the way!
"posh can be humble!"
Loved Claire balding at the commonwealth games. She really stepped up a gear even when lumbered with fourth rate co presenters. I have no interest in horse racing but Claire's descriptive narrative of her younger years and passion for racing makes for a very enjoyable listen. Never thought I would buy this book but so glad I did.
"My kind of woman."
Nopes, I never read or listen to the same book twice.
The honest and warm stories told with such feeling without sentiment. Being an animal lover, it was very easy to relate to.
Her brother. Gave me many laughs.
Too many to mention,
I had absolutely no idea who C. Balding was. I saw her at the G. Norton show and gave her book a go. I really enjoyed it to the full. I laughed and cried my way through it. Thank God it was an audiobook. Would have been hard to read with tears in my eyes. Clare captures the love and reality about living with animals.
One of my favourites
I like the way that Clare brought the characters to life with different accents. I also liked the way that she is very matter of fact about the way she was brought up, rather than wallowing in any kind of self pity.
When Clare won her first race.
The book made me feel happy. I felt like I cared about what had happened to Clare and all her pets.
I really enjoyed this audiobook. I could relate to how Clare felt about the poines that affected her life, as I grew up with ponies myself. I listened to the book in the car on my way to the stables! I have been recommending this book to all my horsey friends xx
"A fascinating insight."
I have always enjoyed listening to Clare Balding on TV, but had no idea of the interesting and colourful upbringing she'd experienced. I bought this book initially as a lighter listen, on a day I had guests in my car, but I loved every minute and drove home slowly for the rest of the week until I'd finished it.
"Fascinating and very likeable"
I found it fascinating to find out more about her early life; she is startlingly honest!
She sounds very natural
Insight into a different world
"Perfick for racing fans"
I'm not one for re listening with any book but perhaps for reference.
Its one of those books that the title says it all. The book is all about the animals in her life and not her subsequent BBC and other TV work. However any fans of the lady and her riding career will love it.
Honest and well read with enthusiasm.
"Unless you are besotted with horses dont buy this"
Very disappointing read. we know Claire was brought up with horses but from the title we are led to expect more. It seemed to me that at least every 10th sentence either the word horse or a horses mane is mentioned. I love animals but found this to be a fixation on horses. Sorry Claire.
"Lighthearted and enjoyable"
Clare Balding reads her own autobiography without labouring any part of it; enjoyable and, at times, educational!
"A normally extraordinary life, beautifully told."
Clare speaks in a clear and simple way, allowing anyone access to the characters she encountered in her youth. The stories are both elating and, at times, upsetting, but are all well, well worth listening to.
