I plan on listening to this again and again.
I love the whole supernatural dwellers theme.
Ms Potter is one of my favorite narrators. She imparts a special touch to each of the characters.
This was a great story line. It grabbed me from the first chapter and delivered throughout the book. The characters were a delight. Great fun to learn about this new race, the world they lived in and the rules they lived by which were unique. The love story developed in a believable way with just enough angst so not to be annoying. The interaction between the characters given this new world and its rules were captivating. Although this follows the romance genre formula it was just different enough to make you believe it was not the typical romance genre formula. Despite all of the above, the plot was predictable, but like you would wish for an old friend, I was happy to see things work out as I had hoped.
I felt lost for the first 4 chapters! The books fast pace futuristic world was hard to get understand with more than 4 different spaces of time? After I got a good grasp of the futuristic world's it got good. I loved the intense pleasure and emotions the characters feel for each other!! Great ending....loved it
Books books books
If you decide to get this book be prepared for a slow listen its not a bad book and is well written but just slow it does get better with the 2 other books in the series.
Reading is a must-have ESCAPE...
Frank's creative addition to the paranormal community of Shadowdwellers (briefly introduced in her Nightwalker series) is a hit. The Shadowdweller plot line has several layers. There are multi-reality-scapes, individuals with special abilities, a monarchical system, a powerful/influential religious system, and a dark conspiracy incorporated into the plot. Though this combination may not sound doable, Frank nails it. The story begins curiously... Ashla's living situation, in and of itself, ensnares the reader. Then, she meets Trace in a most unexpected way. Frank takes the time to introduce us to the twin rulers (Malaya & Tristan), Trace's father (Magnus), Magnus' handmaiden, along with a myriad of other characters. Each installment into the Shadowdweller series draws focus on one of these initial characters --- set up similarly in the Nightwalker series.
For paranormal enthusiasts, the Shadowdweller series is an excellent departure from the typical...namely wolves & vamps. The romance between Ashla & Trace is well described yet not overdone. I liked the series so much that I'm already halfway through Rapture, Book 2... which I dare say may even be better than Ecstasy.
Kirsten Potter is an excellent narrator and her interpretation/delivery doesn't disappoint. All will enjoy!
After reading the entire Nightwalker Series I was needing more Jacquelyn Frank. She is honestly a genious ! I highly recommend both series-though one is not a pre-requisite for the other. Narrators are also chosen perfectly ! You will not be disapointed, and if you are, you may want to check your pulse....
It was good, but it just took a little while to get into the story. It didn't capture your attention immediately the way the Nightwalkers did. I would have probably liked it better if I had not already listented to the Nightwalker Series. The narrator left a little to be desired after the awesome narration of Xe Sands in the Nightwalkers.
All in all it was pretty good.
Romantically, deliciously, dramatic.
I liked the entire story, but loved watching Ashla grow strong and brave and watching Trace's relationship with her change.
She is a great narrator. Have listened to her in other book and think she does a wonderful job. Men's voices could be a little gruffer, but not really a complaint.
The only complaint I had about the book was the ending. Without giving anything away and letting readers/listeners know it in no way detracts from the story, I would like to have had more of a "finish" to the main characters' story.
Probably not. The book was all over the place.
The story line was all over. I love her other books, but this one I had to keep going back because I felt like I missed something. But I didn't the story changed without explanation. It just seamed this was hastily written.
The ending was left open, but unless I am desperate for a read, I won't read the next one.
