I've been reading science fiction and fantasy for decades, and just when I think there will never be anything as enjoyable as old friends from long ago... along comes a new author with a slightly different twist and a refreshing story with interesting characters. Makes me feel like there's hope for the universe!
Great, fun and easy books. But the narrator, although practiced at storytelling and clarity, gives away all the characters by telling you how good or evil they will be with the amount of gravel in his voice.
Sullivan did a great job wrapping up all the loose ends of the many characters lives.
They all went on to either be properly eulogized or went on to live happy, contented lives.
I am a bit of an idealist, so I am completely satisfied with "happily ever after" endings.
Magnus ended up being a surprise favorite. He grabbed hold of his miraculous second chance and made good with it.
Good Lord!! When Arista and Hadrian FINALLY declared their love for one another.
Michael Sullivan you did an amazing job. As did the wonderful actor who read the book!
I lost myself in your well-written and entertaining world. I feel as though I made some good friends, if that makes any sense at all.
Great writing, wonderfully read!
Many times - I laughed & had tears. This hardly ever happens, but the descriptions & character development is perfect.
What a great series! As good as the Wheel Of Time series or Game Of Thrones! Characters are awesome!
Fantasy Novels 4 Life
high on list
many d&d books
got to do the prequels now
Take the ride. I have Thoroughly enjoyed this series. Just starting the next book and anticipate more of the same fun, exciting adventure.
A wonderful end to a wonderful trilogy/6 book series. I was leery at first when I read that this series was purposely written so that the first book would be the weakest and least interesting. I honestly should have never doubted.
I will get the bad over with. This book was a little slow at first. Slow and tiresome. But it turned out to not last long. Because once the Wintertide games started, it went back to being entertaining, funny, and suspenseful. Though I am glad the first book in this volume was short. Especially because the second book was all the longer for it.
As in the previous two reviews, the first book is a medieval games setting and the second is a dungeon crawl with all the heroes and favorite characters of the books. Things I didn't expect to happen, happened. Things I hadn't even thought about happened. Then there its he fact that we get character growth all around. Oh and the best part? This book answered all questions asked during the series, no loose threads, plot holes, or deus ex machina. And my favorite part of all? A long denouement. Seriously I love books that don't just abruptly end after the climax. I always feel cheated.
So long story short, if you read the first two, this one is even better. If not, I wholly recommend the Riyiria Reveleations. The books are not repetitive, they are entertaining but have depth, and are just all around fun.
Excellent fantasy series. I'm really glad I decided to go with all three books as I did become more attached as it went along. In a sign of a great series (to me), I immediately went to the authors profile page to see what other books he's written and added several to my wishlist. Michael Sullivan is definitely a top-tier fantasy writer and this trilogy proves it!
Never enough books
Even though this series was nice and long. I just didn't want to leave the characters when the books ended. The characters all felt like family. I usually only just listen while walking the dog,but found myself listening every chance I could get. There are only two other authors that can pull me into characters like this ( JimButcher and Michael Hearne)
