I did not read the print version so I don't know which would have been better. I would guess that for me, this time, the print version would have been better.
My favorite character was Scott. I think the innocence of him, in the midst of all this carnage and these self destructive adults gave me hope that Heloise could attain her goals.
Great Women's Characters
Heloise's mother would be my supper companion. I would want to know how she reconciled her life choices with the pain it caused her daughter. I think it would help me understand some of my own extended family better.
Male characters all sounded much the same, with the same blunt pauses. Not all guys are gorillas, and some change in accent and cadence would have helped with that a lot. I loved that Heloise chose the high road and did the right thing by her employees. While I don't agree with her position on prostitution, I did like that she would only hire those who knew what they were getting into and then treated them as professionals. It gave me respect for a character I thought I would only pity or dislike.
I did mix up this book and I`d Know you anywhere but they were equally as good!
The narrator hammed it up a bit too much for me. Good story, keep me interested all along. More of a thriller than a mystery. You can see how it can happen.
A story about a woman with a troubled past - an exciting occupation - lots of issues that was boring. The main character worried about her issues and whined about her past from beginning to end. .
No, it was not a good time investment.
Yes, differentiating the characters she did well BUT, she sounded very tired throughout.
The story jumps around from the past to the present.... I got the feeling that the author had an idea, wrote it down and then declared it "finished". Sometimes I just felt that I must have missed something... what/who were they talking about??? I never cared for the characters and was listening because I had seen it marked with FIVE STARS. Really??? I think I am generous with my 2 star rating.
Wife to one, mom to six, lifelong lover of books.
The story was multi-layered
The juxtaposition between good and evil. The protaganist has sex with men for money but yet we like her.
Didn't have a fave.
One of the most enjoyable books I've listened to in awhile.
