The plot was simple but was very entertaining. The various characters had great personalities and watching our hero "grow" made the journey fun.
WHERE'S THE REST?
No, seriously, I went to go get the second book and it's simply not offered. Why on earth...? I want the rest of the story.
Really good listen, I would love to listen to the rest of the books in this series.
I listened to this book while in my car and while working, it was time well enough spent.
This story fell into many of the tropes that have come to be associated with fantasy novels. Difficult to pronounce character names, dwarves and elves not getting along, dwarves being sturdy folk who can hold out against evil, resurrection of the dead, etc. It's all very played out. There was so little time spent developing characters that i didn't really care if one of them died. Also, the unnecessary references to time as cycles, it was annoying instead of unique.
I don't want to spoil the story for someone who hasn't listened to it yet, but the scene that ties the introduction to the story into the main story was probably the best.
not without patton oswalt as a script doctor
I don't want to dissuade anyone from enjoying this book, it they are all about dwarves and elves this is probably perfect for them. It's just not by cup of tea.
This is the first audiobook I have ever not finished. My husband had read the series and suggested it for me. It was the most cookie cutter fantasy I have ever had the misfortune of listening to. Dwarf raised by humans wants to find his birth family, epic quest with a rag tag group leads to more questions...
It was also a 15 hour book... 10 hours in, I had already figured out the ending and called it quits.
I'm more a Sci Fi or modern age fantasy than this type of fantasy.
Honestly, nothing sticks out in my mind as particularly noteworthy.
I maybe a bit harsh, i can't say this book is badly written or that the narrator isnt great, i will actually give the narrartor serious credit, im sure i would not have read that far on my own. just the story itself is rather uninspired.
This mountain of books isn't going to listen to itself.
If you really like Dwarves sure. I think there are other fantasy books out that I could spend 22 hours on. I love long books, my library has some of the longest ones here on audible.
No. I would say pass. The book felt like it needed a big time edit. The way he raised the stakes so often felt ridiculous. I like the stakes raised, but too much is too much. I did get the feeling I was on a adventure with a bunch of Dwarves. But if you need that I would have some other recommendations for you.
Also Character relationships all felt weird to me. It felt that a bunch of people that hated each other were thrown into the situation. With the main character soothing all the situations. And you had to hear about it the whole time.
He had some really good Dwarve voices and acted them out well. Well spoken. Still I only give my favorite Narrators 5 stars.
No. To be honest I almost gave up on the book. Getting to the ending was hard for me.
I really wanted to love this book. Hey I like Dwarves as much as the next guy. I doubt I will get book 2.
Didn't read the book, so can't comment on audio vs written.
The scene on the bridge of the Fourth Kingdom.
All of it. Wolf does an outstanding job of character personalization.
The Dwarves. Stubborn. Warlike. Heroes.
This story surprised me. I generally don't go for the peasant-goes-on-an-errand-becomes-hero type stories, but this one was different. Character development was outstanding, and the storyline really kept me interested.
Detailed intruiquing storyline
Tungdil. Consistency in character growth
Voices were great and appropriate. Added to the excitement, suspense and humor of the novel.
Yes, I wish I could have.
I read and listen to several books at once, (same approx time frame) I hop from one to another because its take alot to hold my attention. This book was one that I had read several years ago and was excited to be able to have it on audio. It held my attention so much that I couldnt listen or read anything else until it was finished. The orignal book was written in German and translated to English. Even though I remembered the story line, the audio had me completely captivated. The reader helped with prononciation of several names and places that I had difficulty interpreting when I read the book. It really made a difference. There are 2 more books available in the series and I really hope these get recorded as well. If you're a fan of LOTR or Hobbit, you will enjoy. I loved it.
Fantasy Novels 4 Life
More all books in series are good I have read them all but would love to listen
Sme of ra salvatore dwarf parts in drizzt
More come on do it please
It was decent. Not spectacular. Sometimes it felt like the plot twists were written by a child. It was also very predictable on many occasions. Not sure if I will go on to the rest of the series.
