Makes you belly laugh throughout and great sense of humor about the unexpected things life can throw at you
The characterization of Seattle and people in Seattle was spot on, mocking but perfect. The only things missing were including complaints about new residents in the city, and CA and OR drivers. The battle against blackberries--oh man do I feel that pain! Goats and picks are indeed sometimes the best remedy.
And, the story itself was at times dark, but fantastical. There are a few plot points that are highly unlikely, but that's what a novel is for :)
Despite those moments, each character in the story is both are flawed and relatable. Making it a story you can get invested in and truly enjoy.
This story is very entertaining but I personally found the performance to be a little off kilter- the reader has a particular way of speaking (not an accent, but a sort of way of pronouncing) that is distinct - and she doesn't seem to change tone of voice at all between characters which can make the book (which is not told sequentially and is from multiple points of view) difficult to follow. Overall nothing was bad, just not my favorite and I found the reading distracting.
Now THIS is an audio book that's surpassing many I've listened to because the story really comes to life. It's like listening to a play. The voices! The singing (it's actually really cool when it happens and fits in). All narrated by one person!? Amazing! I had to return a recent audio book because the different characters were narrated by one monotone voice. THIS is an amazing listen. It's fun, quirky and a little wacky but intriguing and interesting story! I'm getting to the very end of the book and am dying to find out what happens. I had to write my review now because I'm that into this book. It's a lot of fun to listen to!
This book is hilarious, quarky, warm and prickly at the same time. The narrator brings the characters to life. I loved this book and will be recommending and gifting it to my friends who can appreciate a dry sense of humor with a little snark mixed in.
Weird, but good. I enjoyed it and will pursue books by this author in the future. I thought the narration was good, which is something I am usually critical of.
quickly got into the story. couldn't wait to find out what happened! I want to know where they go from here! how do they get back with dad and fit sue Lin into the mix.
It spun in so many circles without much resolution, moms insane, house is decrepit, child is confused and lost. dad is busy and having a one night stand and all circles back to- thats completely fine?
The voice was hard to get used to.
It kept me listening but ended very unsatisfyingly
The book DID keep me listening but I felt like it spun in circles, tangents, there were a lot of other stories under the surface that weren't touched on. Nice build, certainly made Bernadette seem insane, she disappears, oh here you are in Antarctica...totally normal, we'll just patch things up then- and a preggo assistant???
