I liked the story and the romance between Garrett and Sarah was really good. Maya Banks does great romance stories. (Except "Theirs to Keep, not a good one.)
At times this was a bit too drawn out and not much going on during many parts of the book.
The Narrator's voice was way too old and ruined your imagination of how Garrett should look. Garrett is a young man and this narrator made it sound like he was way too old. Harry Berkeley is a good narrator but he fits a Humphrey Bogart smoked too many cigarettes voice, not a young man.
It was a good buy since it was on sale.
Garrett Kelly is a marine and oldest son of the Kelly clan. In the last book, he was shot when they went to rescue Sophie, his brother's pregnant wife. In this book, he was still recuperating from his injury when KGI got another assignment. Garrett was sent to find Marcus Lattimer, a well known arms dealer, traitor and personal enemy of the KGI guys. The only thing Marcus cared about was his half sister Sarah Daniels, so the CIA knew she would be their best lead to find Lattimer.
If you have enjoyed the narration of the prior two books, then this one is just more of the same. I didn't enjoyed the narrator in book 1, but I loved the next two books so I will definitely continue on audio.
I am surprised at how much I am enjoying this story but I guess I shouldn't be as I loved Maya Banks two historical romances. The story telling is face paced and it's predictable enough that I feel comfortable with where the author is going. I will try to read the next book next week.
YES AND NOW I WANT TO BUY THE ENTIRE SERIES
GARRETT, HE SOUNDS WONDERFUL
I HAVE NOT, HE SOUNDED WONDERFUL
YES, COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN
As with the other series, the plot and story, what there was of it is good, but the sex took over almost all the story. Guess I don't have to go back and listen to 50 shade's of Grey..
Yes. The entire story from beginning to end was non-stop intrigue, excitement, adventure, and heart. I really loved that this story showed that no family is perfect, but in the end, they always have your back. People are not perfect, each character was mixture of good and bad, strength and cowardice, mistakes and redemption. (Except the Cross brothers...they are pure EVIL!!!)
There were 2 very memorable moments in the story. The first was when Marcus executed Allen Cross at the beginning of the story as revenge/justice for his sister. (I know its wrong, but I cheered!! YAY Marcus!!). The second was when Sarah showed tremendous strength and courage when she offered herself to the "terrorists" in order to save Garrett, especially in light of her past.
I truly think that audio books would enhance their stories with even more depth and excitement if dual narrators are used (1 male and 1 female).
I love books and love to get lost in the fantasy. I'm always looking for a new good story to bury myself in. :)
This was a really good story. I really liked Garrett and Sarah and enjoyed their story. This was a very good addition to the series and it's my fave so far.
Sarah is a sweet woman that hasn't had things easy most of her life. Recently, her half-brother, Marcus, found out that her ex-boss raped her and he murdered the man. Sarah tried to stop him but when she can't, she goes on the run to trying to protect herself and Marcus from the backlash of the murder. The problem is that Marcus is a very bad man that's wanted by many people for much worse things than murder (and she doesn't realize this because he keeps his business far from her) so when others find out about their connection, Sarah becomes a target.
Garrett is one of the Kelly brothers that run KGI (Kelly Group International), a private company that performs Ops like hostage/kidnap victim recovery & intelligence gathering among other things. He's ex-military and a good guy that loves his family and protects the people he loves. He's contacted by the CIA when they find that Marcus (who is an enemy of Garrett's since Marcus turned traitor and got many of Garret's team killed during a mission) has a sister they may be able to use to find Marcus. Garret agrees to go shadow Sarah to see if Marcus shows up. Garrett certainly isn't expecting Sarah to make such an impact on him.
Even though her rape took place a year ago, Sarah has a hard time trusting men around her. When she first meets Garrett, she's kind of freaked by him (he's so big and strong and could cause her damage) but yet she feels the first niggling of attraction to a man that she's had since the rape. She finds him interesting and watches him out the window of her beach cottage frequently. Garret, while attracted to Sarah, recognizes that she's very skittish and seems to have suffered a past trauma. Due to this he goes very slowly with Sarah, first becoming friends and getting her trust. As they become friends, Garrett realizes pretty quickly that his feelings for Sarah are very possessive and he's getting in to the whole "mine" mindset with Sarah. He decides to keep her safe, keep an eye out for Marcus and try to get through this in a way that he'll be able to keep Sarah in his life afterwards. This becomes harder than he expected when Sarah gets spooked by a possible intruder in her cottage and escapes with hardly a trace. Garrett is forced to regroup and try to locate where Sarah went to.
Sarah ends up in Mexico but Garrett is able to track her down. When he comes back in to her life he can't act like he's just run in to her again by chance so he tells her that Marcus sent him to keep her safe. Sarah is relieved when Garrett walks back in to her life. He was the first man she started trusting again and felt an attraction to in a while so she was sad he wasn't around any more. When he tells her he was sent to protect her, she agrees to go with him to a safer place. While on the move, they run in to some major issues and they're both taken captive by some bad guys. They escape (with some help from KGI) but while in the situation, Garrett and Sarah become even closer emotionally and also physically close as they rely on each other and bond even more. When they get out of the situation, Garrett and Sarah get even closer and share some tender moments. Just when Garrett is getting ready to tell Sarah the truth about everything, all hell breaks loose and Sarah ends up finding out the truth but in a very bad way. Thinking that Garrett doesn't return her feelings and that he just used her, Sarah is crushed and doesn't want anything to do with Garrett. Garrett is forced to go after Sarah and do some quick talking to convince her that his feelings for her are true. Garrett does a very good job though and is able to get Sarah to believe he loves her and to give them a chance, leading in to a nice, satisfying HEA.
This was a really good book. I loved Garrett and Sarah together and their story was well done, a perfect mix of romance and action/suspense. The story was interesting and engaging and I didn't want to stop until I was done. I'd recommend this book. 2 thumbs up! :D
No spoilers! Love HOT, sexy books w/a plot. No vampires, paranormal, teens 4 me. I also review in exchange for books-lots of fun surprises!
The strong Kelly men swooping in to rescue the damsels in distress. However, the damsels are not weak or helpless.
The Darkest Hour-Kelly Book 1 also The Troubleshooters Series by Suzanne Brockmann
When Garrett meets Sarah on the beach the first time. It is sweet.
Great book, lots of action AND romance.
NOTE: Strong language and sexual situations
Love Romantic Erotica with a twist , thrill, suspense and a great story !
Love this series. Was really shocked with the whole softness of Garrett. You really must read this series of strong brothers. WOW ! Thats all, READ THEM, you won't be disappointed.
Book 3 in the KGI series. By all accounts, Garret is my favorite of the Kelly brothers. Maybe it's his character: he's tough and caring, has a special connection to Rachel or how he continually surprises you with his open affection for his family. I also love the voice Harry Berkeley uses for this character- it's the perfect amount of gruff and has a yummy accent. The story is jammed packed. Sara gains your sympathy immediately. I like that there is a gray line between good and bad with Sara's brother. And spiced through the story, you start to learn more about the other Kelly brothers. Banks is truly the master of this. Enjoyed the listen. Words still out on which book of the KGI is my favorite. I think it's worth the credit if you're looking for love, action and revenge. Not remembering as much sex in this book but I didn't have a problem with it. Still wanted Garret and Sara to live happily ever after during the entire listen:)
