"This book has stayed with me..."
I loved the narrator's voice and I think that held my attention in what is a very long book
Hard to say but Tom Cullen was a very strong, different hero to the norm. Less obvious than the other heros in the book. I didn't really like Franny. If you met her in the flesh she'd be very annoying, very full of herself. But, as in real life, you can't like everyone in a book.
Tom Cullen and probably Larry, because Larry wasn't meant to be overly likeable in the beginning and he was the character that developed the most.
I'm not going to say too much but I love Kojak.
My friend and I listened to this at the same time - a bargain of a book for 47 hours worth of listening. I became completely hooked but she was not so keen, so I guess this book is not for everyone. In my head all the characters have become real so I can see why, as he says in his introduction, Stephen King often gets asked how the characters are getting on now - as if they are real living somewhere (probably in Boulder). It may not be a classic, it may not appeal to everyone, it may not be the world's most beautifully written book but I loved it and has sealed my opinion that King is a master story teller.
Stephen King hates adverbs, allegedly. So I was surprised to find thousands of them in this book. A book that becomes your good friend for a week or so, then swiftly forgotten.
It's an enjoyable listen. The narrator is great, when it comes to male characters. All females however, sound like dimwits. May be due to both the writing and the narrator, but I started skipping past the females after a while. I'm neither a feminist nor a female and rarely notice such things, but all females sound the same here: meek and daft. Apart from that, I enjoyed it :).
Delivered for the full 40 hours
Loved every minute and could have listened for another 40!!
stories within a story.
extremely well narrated.
this book does not disappoint in any way whatsoever!
"Still the best book ever!!!"
This is the extended version where King really delves deep into the lives and thoughts of some excellent characters. I previously had the 'short' version but it felt unfinished so I just had to have this! In my opinion this is still the best book King ever wrote. Excellent narration too. If you're a fan of King and a fan of audio books then this is a must!!
"Brilliant story and performance"
48 hours is a lot to ask of anyone for one story, but the combination of Kings writing and Gardners voice makes it so enjoyable.
"Stephen King's best epic!!!"
From start to finish I was gripped by the story, I can't compliment it enough with a review.
Narration is awesome too. some stories can be ruined by narration but this is just on point.
Just buy this now!! Trust Me, you won't regret it
Just so incredible, I have listened to this 4 times.
The depth of characters in this story is simply mesmerizing. When you finnish the book you will find that you actually miss characters and pretty sad it's all over.
Grover Gardener brings all of the characters to life. I personally find Glen Bateman to be a joy, the way he is written and performed is brilliant.
Something special this book is, I don't think I will find anything better.
I hope duma key is good.
His brilliant best! Fantastic scope and plot drawing. Superb characters and realism. You must read it.
"A very long, emotionally rich story"
This book will have you laughing, gasping, shouting in frustration, hoping, wondering, and even crying in some places. To call this a book or a story isn't enough; it's a saga. It tells the entire story of a very different bunch of people from start to finish. I could not have guessed where this was going or what was going to happen, even at the halfway point. If you love rich detail in every character, to the point you feel like you know them as a friend then this book is for you. And can I just say Grover Gardner's performance is one of the best I've ever listened to; every character has their own distinct voice and he switches between them flawlessly, applying tones and effects to his voice as realistically as if the story was happening to him, truly heart-rending in some places (especially Christmas day in the snow scene, had a tear roll down my cheek and I'm a 28 year old man!). I can only say that despite its enormous length, you will not be disappointed!
