Well I have read this book several times. I am enjoying listening to it far more than reading it and that is saying something. It is a strange experience now as I first read it as a teenager and now am older than the characters I saw as old men in those days.
However revisiting these characters is like finding dear old friends who I have missed. I have not even finished yet but I felt I had to review it for anyone thinking of listening.
I was not sure at first about the narrator, however he quickly grew on me and is very versatile and accomplished.
I am now remembering why I loved this book so much. So for new readers go for it. And old readers who want to re-meet and fall in love with Stu, Nick and the others then I say just ah you're are going to have a real treat.... But hopefully not a sweet dark treat like Larry finds in New York...
This is one long book! I think it could be shorter and retain its magic but to be honest I enjoyed it enough to forgive it its size! Interesting characters , growing and evolving, are what keep this book together from beginning to end.
Fantastic character development
Stu Redman an hero to the end
The beginning was especially emotion when the family with the bay died
"sweat, blood, tears and thought provoking!"
great story that kept me griped from the beginning, and it's a long listen. I'm not usually one for stories with religion as a prominent theme, but it was very tastefully done. I didn't feel preached at at all.
the narrator has done a wonderful job, his voice suits the story and the characters perfectly.
all in all a very entertaining listen!
Stephen King at his finest. Narrator did a great job. A stunningly beautiful local! Kudos.
"Stephen King does it again"
have read , watched, and now listened. never gets boring. truly brilliant a Stephen King masterpiece.
"Captain trips of a jorney"
A wonderful story of good vs. evil. the characters are well developed and have you rooting for individuals and their struggle.
The narrator is very good at relaying the sub text and feeling within the book and characters.
"A long story with no substance"
This was an arduous read. Was recommended after reading a number of dystopian fantasy but a waste of my time. Stuck with it because i had got so far and thought it was take some clever twists - but no. Very poor.
"have to love him"
wow what a book as always mr king really cant put them down so tempted to red anotjer
"My all time favourite Stephen King book"
Love this... thank you Audible for helping me to rediscover my love of books. The lilting voice of the narrator made listening a pleasure.
