I'm mostly a stay at home mother with some wishes to be back in the studio.
This was like reading in the dark. I hoped by reading the first book in the series it would build the premise of the magic of the series. I felt that it was just assumed in many instances that the reader understood the authors ideas. By the end of the book I think I understood the storyline, but it would have made more interesting reading if we had more of the characters powers of magic up front. I felt the whole story was out of rhythm, written maybe as a form book without a clear vision from the author. Possibly the next books ripen, but I am waiting for the reviews before I invest.
Writer of paranormal & contemporary erotic romance. Reader of muchness. Drinker of beer & coffee. Ye be forewarned!
I would probably NOT recommend this audiobook to a friend-- I'd tell them to just go out and buy the print or e-copy. For me, the narrator totally missed the mark on this. Her voice is largely monotone and most of her characters sound similar, which takes away from the beautiful tone of the story itself and how different all the characters are.
The story itself. Kristen Callihan is relatively new on the scene and her story is lush, complemented by the stage she sets in both mystery and setting. It's a brilliant combination of historical and paranormal elements.
After being so uninspired by the narrator, the only way to improve on the performance-- again, for me-- would be to have someone else do the reading. I was such a fan of this book that I bought the audiobook automatically without giving a listen to the sample first. I won't be making the same mistake again.
The moving parts of the story weren't done justice by this narrator. There are some particularly tense scenes that weren't given the emphasis and tension they deserved.
I'll read anything good. I'm easy that way.
I really enjoyed this victorian /paranormal /romance mash up. Thought the idea was original enough to warrant purchasing the 2nd book as well. Kept me interested to the end.
Thought the reader was great also. Will look for more books read by her.
Narration was good, which can make or break a book. Strong heroine. Wonderful chemistry between the hero and heroine. Excellent dialogue/action from characters.
Audible addicted love mystery, lately stuck on love story. Mother of 1 Labrador and 1 perfect man. Work way too hard, and so ready to be retired
Absolutely excellent narrator she has just made it in my top 3 the story was very cool I enjoy the change from the normal romance
Yes. I like the plot. Very well written. Moira Quirk narrated beautifully. I Ike the strong character that Kristen Callihan gave her heroine. Very, very good. Will definitely purchase the next book from Audible.
The secret of the face behind the mask. Couldn't guess correctly!
Both Miranda and Archer.
Will continue the series.
yes it was a nice light read that you could enjoy without to much bother
three stars for it
Love reading. Love listening.
Oh yeah, I really enjoyed this story. For the longest time (since middle school) I avoided paranormal anything. However, I got this one a while back - probably on sale -and I enjoyed it. I was too lazy at the time to write a review. No wait, I was busy reading the second in the series. I just listened to it again, and have the second ready to go. One of the things I liked about this was that the characters didn't annoy me. Also, the plot was believable in a paranormal kind of way, and the mystery/suspense was good. I also liked the narrator. There are some books I'd like to listen to, but the narrator irritates me half to death. Oh, I also like the Victorian setting (please someone message me the titles of other romances set in this era, but not narrated by someone irritating).
I loved this story! The performance was wonderful! This is a great love story... not the typical romance.
This is an awesome romance story with a bit of magic thrown in. I love historical romance novels but sometimes it gets boring. This book, however, is not boring and throwing the magic into the story keeps the listener hooked and then becomes a fantasy/historical/romance story! The love story is not typical or boring and it keeps you entralled to finish it all at once. I hated to pause this story in because it was so good. The narrator is good as well. Overall a must add to your library. Can't wait to hear the next book.
