Great story Line but a little bit too slow for me
Buffy maybe (have only seen bits and pieces of that show...)
the accents of the characters.
I generally liked this book. I had been looking forward to its release for over a year. The first release "A Discovery of Witches" was the kind of book that you just can't put down. As you're introduced to a very unique world of Witches, Demons and Vampires the plot becomes very exciting and continually leaves you wanting more. This second book was a little different. I guess first of all it was written with more of a feminine viewpoint than the first. Even though the character hasn't changed the sorry is told a little differently than the first installment. There was too much filler material for me, very descriptive at times and a lot of exploration of the emotions of the main character Dianna and less action and interacting with the magical world than I would have liked. Mind you the book is still a very good book and at many times very griping with an excellent last few chapters and still enough twists to keep me reading!! It just wasn't in my mind as enthralling as the first novel.

Yes. It and its predecessor are two of the best books I have read (or listened to) in years and I was absolutely captivated by both of them. I can't believe the other reviewers used words like bored, and unnecessary information in the same sentence about this book.
The two main characters and you will just have to read it to come up with your own conclusions.
All of them.
Phillipe, if I have to chose ONE, read it to find out why.
Not all of us reading this book are scholars regarding the period in which the book takes us, therefore we would be enchanted by this book, not BORED. Boredom is individual and not a word to be used when talking about a book as good as this one. If you felt like turning it off, you should have because it wasn't written for you. I, for one, enjoyed every single minute, and think most other people who would be interested in vampire and witch stories would also.

Not as enjoyable as Discovery of Witches, but still, wonderful characterization. Next time, a little less London history and travelogue would be nice. Could have been edited down quite a bit and still would have been a five-star read.
Congratulations to Ms. Harkness. She deserves the acclaim she's won :-)
stimulating, historical and escapism
when Marcus meets Sophie
She did a good job on Diana's voice
everything you wanted to know about food and travel in the 1600th century but were afraid to ask
I didn't like the Mathew's voice or accent.. sounded false
Yes. I love the characters, I can't wait for the next installment!
The danger and intrique, of course! The forbidden love story, having to keep her powers a secret. I love vampire love stories!
The second book in the series was a good listen. I really like how the narrator brings the story another dimension. This is a good story line, which is refreshing.
It was a slow story but I really enjoyed it. I hope the rest come out soon though cause I hate waiting and tend to forget when a new one come out to look for it.
I always struggle with the 2nd book of a trilogy because it usually serves as the interlude before your questions are answered and things start making sense in the final book. It didn't live up to the Discovery of Witches, but I still enjoyed getting to know the characters a little better and the introduction of new ones. A few things in the development of the main characters in this book didn't really make sense to me, but if you make allowances it could theoretically make sense.
I still recommend this book and will definitely follow it up when the final book of this series is available. :)
I would listen to the book over and over again. It is that good.
One of the many memorable part for me in Shadow of Night was when Diana meets Phillip for the first time and learns about her husband.
I have not listened to any other books by Jennifer Ikeda but I already have them identified in my wish list.
When will be the next book out? I can hardly wait.
