The Charisma Myth leaves you with practical, although sometimes crazy sounding, tips on how to increase the charisma you project. Writing how something went before you do it, was probably the most memorable because I thought it sounded like an idea that would never work - but it does. I've tried it several times and the suggestions in the book do help improve charisma.
An enjoyable voice to listen to. Personally, I can't read non-fiction so being able to listen to the non-fiction books I really want to read allows me to gain that material. I much prefer reading fiction. Listening to Lisa reading the book was excellent.
It's not that kind of book. It is mostly a clear definition of what qualities present as charisma and techniques to use to present those qualities. I've found it extremely helpful.
If you want to increase your skill in charisma - listen to this book. There is a lot of content though. I listen while driving and there were times I wanted to make notes. I ended up listening to the book three times because there was just so much to take away from it. So maybe listen in a setting where you can make notes, if that is something that you like to do.
I learned a lot about myself and the ways I interact with others. I'm a very introverted person, and I'd always believed that charisma was something extroverts naturally acquired. However, after employing some of the techniques suggested in this book I noticed that peoples reactions to me changed and my conversations because more engrossing. This book is definitely worth a read.
Nothing to see here. Nothing new, what little substance there was I had seen and heard elsewhere. It's mostly happy feel good nonsense. Goes on and on about the vague feel good concept of "warmth" never anything solid. I made it 3/4 of the way through this book and stopped because it was such a waste of time. Between reading and audiobooks, I usually go through 5-12 books a month and this is the first book I have quit on in probably 5 years. I don't know what convinced me to buy it, I am usually pretty good at screening my books and avoiding stuff like this but this one got me.
Short term: lots of helpful tips for improving your interpersonal skills.
Long term: has given me the guideline to help me build myself into the charismatic individual I wish to become.
I loved this book so much I shared it with a friend before finishing it, knowing full well that what I had read was going to help him just as much, if not more, than it helped me!
I loved the book, and the many valuable tips it provides! However, the editing of the narration should be improved, especially the pausing, which in many ways contradicts the teachings of the book.
This book dragged on far longer than necessary and was a chore to finish. I concede that it had valuable information, but it was all so hidden inside numerous examples and hypotheticals that it left me waiting for some kind of grand revelation. The last half of the book was only finished so I could feel that my assessment wasn't lacking some later redemption. Go read something else, I plan on returning this!
Really valuable information. Only drawback is that it was read exactly as written (I.e., "Refer to the box below..."). Aside from that, great information told in a manner that is comprehensible and relatable.
