Lots of techniques/exercises mentioned, many focused on relaxation, mood and communication. Thankfully, there was relatively little theory. The authors personal stories were not overdrawn. This book won't turn you into a charismatic person, but you'll probably get something out of it.
The editing was a bit weird, I could tell where different audio was sliced in.
It was to the point and never became borring.
I plan on listening to this book over and over. It brings up many interesting points and different approaches to daily situations.
Eloquently written and read. This book is easy to listen to and is packed full of practical and useful information. The thing I like the most about this book is that it is written from the perspective of actually improving the readers charisma. Rather than fill readers will lots of useless theory on charisma and human interaction, Cabane gives the reader real world practical advice as well as exercises to improve your charisma.
If there is any negatives about this book, it is so full of great techniques and advice that you’ll probably have to listen to it 2-3 times or more to get the most out of this book. With that being said, she also provides the key exercises in both MP3 (see her website) and PDF so you have a handy takeaway guide you can immediately use.
I highly recommend this book!
Yes, I've listened to it several times.
Narrator mispronounces a few words--most notably the word "often"--she pronounces the "t," which is very distracting.
I loved this book, the outline of information was very easy to navigate. I could go back and relisten to chapters I wanted to focus on, which is challenging with audiobooks. The material was practical and the author gave good examples to help absorb it. I appreciate the 'tricks' the author gives to get you into the right mindset to be charismatic. The book had a positive impact on daily interactions right away. Overall, I would say it's worth a read for anyone looking to boost their leadership and personal skills. Or if you need a reference to help navigate and manage office politics.
The information was easy to absorb, the examples were interesting enough. There was a ton of practical and applicable advice.
I think the most memorable was the example Lisa gave from her own experience. How she prepares for presentations and meetings.
The call to action to practice the skills in the book at low stakes networking events - it makes them more fun and interesting.
The information is presented in a logical and helpful manner. The only problem I had with the book was the reader sounded like she was spouting the words from the page without actually reading them. There were even parts where the volume would dip dramatically (usually during technical explanations) which could have easily been corrected with basic editing and equalization.
Over all a worth while book, I just wish it was delivered a bit better.
For a book on charisma, both the text and the performance were very lack luster and dull. I found myself constantly tuning out and quite honestly, dozing off. Snooze fest and unhelpful.
Basically all Ms Cabane says in this book is that other people can sense your internal state. For example, if you can get yourself into a confident frame of mind, you will appear confident. She gives a few tips and tricks for body language but barely skims the surface of what is a very useful tool in manipulating people's perceptions. All in all, I didn't think it was worth the listen, and I don't recommend it.
Anything can be learned given enough time but the way the material presented is mediocre. Everyone wants to be charismatic a terrific subject but everyone wants to be a billionaire too.
no, read above
The presenter was not inspiring. HIre a new presenter.
Believe in yourself
Listen to Amy Cuddy in TED is inspiring
Good practical information with examples and how to's.
These are great techniques for getting along with others and making an effort to pave the way for good communication.
