Depends on the friend. If they wanted to be more "likeable" at work or in life, I would. I didn't feel like it was all about charisma but more of a step-by-step process is bettering yourself, growing your presence, and being more likeable (which in the end is being charismatic). If you know yourself (your strengths and weaknesses) well, then the rules and practices in this book will definitely benefit you, because you will know where to focus the work. It's defnitely a book I will come back to for future situations and refreshers on her advice. I wish I had a hard copy but thankfully, she has some great PDFs on her website that serve as good refreshers.
Olivia Fox offers great, applicable ways to become more "charismatic" .I like the way she laid out the book. She gives a formula. Start with yourself and these tips, then move onto these more advanced tips. Some of the advice (esp in the beginning) is pretty standard but she does offer some good yet simple suggestions that I had never thought of or implemented before.
The narrator (and I'm assuming Fox herself) has a way of giving instructions without sounding condescending. She also recognizes some "practices" may be awkward at first but to work through it. That made her advice resonate with me more, because she realizes "self-help" or other strategies to improve your life can be cheesy and uncomfortable. But she assures and explains what this practice will do, how it can be used, and examples of it being used.
This is a dynamite book - and I can't even remember how I stumbled upon it. It really should be renamed - because it's not truly about a single kind of charisma, and in fact the book would be better served not even to use the word given old-school prejudices. The book is really about creating appropriate "presence" with others to better develop unique and mutually satisfying relationships across personal and business lines. This is a fantastic resource, and I hope to use tips from the book to better prepare medical students for the "real life relational" aspects of going out into their rotations and dealing with others.
Love the horror genre but read all kinds of stuff! I'm 40 something, a wife, mom and Project Manager for a large Construction Company.
This is an easy listen with lots of great isable tips and insights. I have started to use some of these methods and and noticed a difference in the way people relate to me. I have listend to the book a few times and each time I absorb new information. The narration is good and I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to benefit from a little more charisma.
Simply put this book is the best book of its kind. Practical and honest . And filled with information that I applied and got dividends from right away. I even bought the kindle copy to have a physical copy to read the highlights if later on. I highly recommend it.
The only negative is I didn't like the performance as much. Bit that's a matter of taste, and not content.
I usually enjoy listening to audiobooks because they are engaging and the readers are charismatic. This is the first audiobook that I cannot stay tune to. I'm so disappointed. Her reading is very dull and monotoned. I'm sure the contents are great but the listening experience is like eating plain jello; tasteless...So much for teaching you charisma when that's the one thing this audiobook lacks.
Monotone, boring, unexciting, not engaging.
Her reading is highly un-charismatic.
I found this to be a very insightful book. It was well thought out and written in a way that's easy to grasp. Some things are very basic, but not to be undermined, even the basics are explained thoroughly as well as the purpose. There were many things I've never thought of before, and overall I found this one really helpful.
The end addresses problems associated with (your newly gained) charisma. Surprisingly these provided insight to problems I was already having with what little charisma I already unknowingly possessed. For what it's worth, this book was great.
Smooth flow. Good set of exercises.
Anyone can practice.
Use Charisma for the good, honest, genuine and honorable causes
Yes...b/c it gives you the how and why on charisma.
The author is the only character.
Had very excellent advice and ideas but it did seem to drone on with some of the examples.
Nothing new in it. All information is gathered from other books and theories and the author makes it sound she came up with the theory.
