Loved the book, but for the audiobook.... could they do a 2 narrator book next time?Tavia Gilbert's Vlad is like a bad Bela Lugosi. Maybe somebody with a deep European accented voice?? (like the guy who does the Kresley Cole books-Robert Petkoff is excellent)
Once again, Jeanine Frost gives us a strong female heroine, a funny but sexy male vampire and a nicely paced adventure. Leila is a woman who had a freak accident create a mutation that means she must maintain a distance from all other humans. She has some baggage from her past that she must overcome. Vlad is the most famous vampire ever with the unique ability to control fire who gets humorously irritated when Dracula is brought up. And naturally, he has his own issues.
When Vlad's enemies attempt to use Leila to get to Vlad, she turns the tables on them and teams up with him. Sparks fly, both literal and figurative. Action ensues, butts are kicked, sex is had.
Unlike other readers, I don't have a major issue with the ending, the storyline was resolved and a new element was introduced at the end which created something of a cliffhanger. My preference is to let each novel stand on its own, because either you like the writers books or you don't. I won't keep reading/listening to a series because of some cliffhanger at the end. But that is a creative decision that I can live with. I did have two other minor issues with the audiobook, one with the performance, one with the writing.
Tavia Gilbert did a fine job, but I felt that the Dracula accent was a bit thick. It's a little "I Vant to Suck Your Blood." The writing clearly states that the accent is not pronounced in several places. But I'm guessing it is harder to do a slight accent rather than a fullblown one.
I liked all of Jeanine Frost's other novels. I have read and/or listened to all of them, I will probably continue to do so in the future. Yes, they are heavy on the sex, and sometimes it is well written, and sometimes it's a bit overblown and goofy. This may be a personal quirk of my own, but I cringed every time I heard about Leila's loins tightening, or feeling something shooting in her loins, or her loins clenching. She used the term "loins" a lot. I understand it's hard to come up with terminology for the female sexual organs but "loins?"
If you can ignore those things, it's a good listen.
Yes, It is exciting and sexy!
Her voices are excellent!!
Yes and I did!
Great Book! Vlad is dark, sexy, and inviting!
Deborah E. Alexander
Both are fantastic!
Vlad, because hs is so masculine, ruthless and HOT!
The passion in her words!
And you thought Dracula was a myth?
I cannot wait for the next book in this series! I hope there will be many more. I have missed Bones, and now look forward to the series about Vlad and Frankie!
I am definately going to listen again!!! Frost serves us well with her wit and sexual splendor. This was an amazing book can not wait till March for the next installment.
The best part was the smoldering beween Vlad and Leila right before the first kiss. Frost really knows how to bring out the passion between characters. I feel it gives the reader the sensation of the first pull of love on the heart strings. VERY Well Done
Her narrations are fantastic love the accentsgives it more of a feeling as if you are really feeling each character as a true individual.. and MMM love the Vlad and Bones accents (ps either Bones or Vlad or both could visit me sometime wow what hot men to bad they are not real :(
Book sould have been longer!!!! and the wait for the next one is too long... ahh March
I know it's a series and you can't have complete closure at the end of the first book but just as the characters are developing especially Leila coming into her own, the book ends. Yes there are questions that leave you having to wait for the next book. Leila is in love with Vlad but he can't or won't love again so that will be intersting in the next book but what I didn't like was how when Tepesh has his enemy face to face finallly he pulls out a weak maneuver and leaves Vlad having to retreat with Leila. I have come to expect more from Ms. Frost and I was a bit let down by that. The dynamic between Vlad and Leila needs to be turned up to 11 for the next installment.
The way it is written and the narrated just bring the whole book together. It is just a great listen.
That you can find someone to love even when you think you never will.
I love Tania Gilbert narrating. She has the knack of reading a book and making it sound great. One of the best narrator's I think. She has a unique way that just draws you into the book.
No, just loved the whole book. Not one particular moment was better than the other.
Magic book, loved it to bits.

HHMM hard to say i enjoyed it all hard to pick somthing out
I thought she did a great job however there were some moments i felt lacking but overall great job

This author just captivates i love the way she writes her bones and cat books were outstanding i listened to them over again and these branch off books are fabulous to but i must say of all these books that are the other charters stories i like this one the best. holding my breath for the next one!
This book had me from chapter 1. I couldn't put my ipod down.
Tavia Gilbert is an excellent reader! It wouldn't have been the same without her.
My only complaint is the story was too short. Perhaps the others will be longer.
