I grew up with books....not television.
I couldn't buy this fast enough when I saw it released. I've listened to every single one of Frost's books and she did not disappoint with Once Burned.
Again, she creates a set of characters that you become completely invested in. Then she sets them on a chaotic action filled adventure packed with just enough heat to make it believable. I've read thousands and thousands of books - but NO ONE has ever written love scenes that affect me this physically until I read Frost's work.
The premise may not be an original one, but it's a storyline that I can't get enough of.....gifted human girl meets dark and mysterious vampire, lives are threatened and working through the issues, girl and vampire fall in lust. I love it. If you love this genre....it's a no-brainer!
Just because a book has a vampire or any other creature of fiction does not necessarily make it a true Sci-fi/fantasy book. The primary theme throughout this book is the erotic relationship between the two main characters in a "Harliquine-esc" type romance. I guess I should have figured that out from the cover picture so part of the blame for wasting my credit on this book lands at my feet. However, I wish Audible would do a little better job labeling the genre of the books. For instance I would label this "romance/erotica with fantasy overtones". I would not have minded so much if the characters had of been better. The vampire was very stereotype and predictable. The main female character has the emotional maturity of 12 year old. Just irritating!
I enjoy Jeaniene Frost and have read all the Bones/Cat novels. I was excited to see a story about Vlad. Her other novels provided a great deal of action, mystery and some sex. THIS NOVEL, however, is all about sex with a little bit of mystery thrown in and almost no action. It starts off with her being kidnapped and rescued within a few minutes, then we hear all about how the protagonist and Vlad are sexually attracted to each other and end up in bed. That's about all the first half of the book is. Second half, well we're getting down to the mystery part... wait wait - nope, gotta take a shower together...ok, now can we discuss how to rescue person x... nope, now we gotta do the 'bite me, please' erotica.
It is on and on and on like this. More story, less sex please... as I said, if I wanted erotica, I'd buy erotica - I want paranormal fantasy. Oh well, I don't think I'll get the next one unless it's on a 'cheap sale'.
This book was entertaining. I do hope it doesnt take long for the next book to come out in this series. Left us hanging on the releationship at the end, although leaving it open for another installment. Not the greatest but it keeps you sucked in and Tavia Gilbert is one of my favorite narrators. I would recommend this book.
You can't help but love the story of Vlad!! We loved him in the Cat and Bones books and the Night Huntress World duo and now he's having his own adventure with the perfect gal for him.
THE ONE DISAPPOINTMENT
This is not a man meets woman and romance ensues story, but the start of more..
You get to the end of the book and there is yet more to come but we have to wait. I personally think this one could have been a bit longer but it's length means it's basically all action with no boring recaps.
Can't wait for the next one!!!
I bought this book from the positive reviews despite the fact I am really tired of vampire stories and have begun to ignore a book just because it's about vampires. I enjoyed the story as well as the narration. If you're as tired pf the deluge of vampire stories, you'll enjoy this one. Even though the basic formula is there, hunky men, strong women, a dash of lust - this is a fun story presented well.
I loved Tavia's clear and consistent portrayal of one of my favorite characters and some new ones I fell in love with.
Vlad is so fun sexy and dark he's the perfect male lead for a urban fantasy/romance novel.
Perfect and up to the standards of all her readings. She is able to make you forget it is just one person reading.
I giggle and smiled even though It made me look silly as I listened. It has the perfect blend of suspense and victory while keeping the realistic feel of the characters. All supernatural elements aside each and every character is deep and individual.
My only complaint is it just wasn't long enough. I can't wait till the next book.
As much as I love Cat and Bones, I have to say that Vlad's story has me hooked! This is one of my favorites now!
There were so many, and I really don't want to give away any of the great moments in this book, but I will just say that I loved how Vlad showed Leila that she didn't react to other men the way she did to him.
Is it wrong to answer the whole book? To narrow it down to just one, I would have to say it was when Leila's first vision of Vlad's future came true.
I love this book! It covered all of the emotions. I love Vlad's confidence and sense of humor. Leila's honesty with herself is refreshing and uplifting. The two go great together.
I can not wait for the rest of the books in this series. The Night Huntress World is one of my favorite places to visit! I can't wait to see where the relationship between Vlad and Leila goes from here!
Love a good romance
Love Tavia Gilbert. I have listened to all of her books all narrated by Tavia she makes the book even more exciting with her ability to put inflection to meaning. Some of them I felt she should have won awards. I have laughed, cried with the different parts she has played.
You should read all of the books if you read them in order you know about the main vampires back round from previous books
As stated above I think she is just unbelievable, I have listened to a lot of books over the last year and the person reading the book can make or break a book. I have listened to other series just because Tavia read them.
Can't wait for the next just hope it is longer hate waiting for the next
Make no mistake between my personality and my attitude. My personality is who I am, my attitude depends on who you are.........
It's a interesting read and I'm always a sucker for a romantic story line. But, I'm not a syfy buff, so was too far-fetched in some areas.
