Absolutely. This novel was very interesting and kept me guessing. I listened to it a few weeks ago and plan on listening to it again very soon. I loved the characters. I loved the way things were structured (and unstructured).
Imp's schizophrenia felt very real. It was haunting and powerful. It gave the listener insight into what goes through a malfunctioning brain.
I've never listened to her other performances but this one was very good. I'd had some false starts with other audio books sounding too robotic and clunky. Suzy sounded human and warm, despite the harrowing text. She gave life to IMP and the others. Fantastic job.
I was moved several times, but not huge drastic movements. It isn't like there is one moment where the author and reader moved a mountain deep in me. It was subtle movements, that, over time, demonstrated that a mountain had moved.
It was powerful and challenging. Some people find the lack of structure at times to be frustrating. I am not one of those people. If you find that unconventional story telling works for you, you'll likely enjoy this. If you need things to follow typical story formats, then maybe look elsewhere (or give it a shot and see what happens).
Plot is not lineal enough, floats around and repeats itself, truly boring. This story was making me insane, had to stop a quarter of the way through.
Needed to get to the point ,or points earlier. Nor have I been able to develope any empathy for Imp. She's unrealistic, I have relatives and friends who suffer from schizophrenia and are on medication, they are neither isolated nor vacant as this character is portrayed.
Maybe if I was desperate
went on way to much in circles... had no idea who was who
Disapointment that I had spent my credit on this.
It began well, but then devolved into a androphobic rant, poorly constructed and uninteresting.
No, Im a fan of horror literature.
Her character interpretation is supberb. she manages to give voice to both the main character as well as the other characters, she is delightful to listen to.
Yes: Never to read another Caitlin R. Kiernan book. Ever.
Read something else, this crap is foul, pretentious and boring. You better swallow chipped glass than waste your time reading this piece of lesbic manure.
better plot content to keep the listener interested
iOneida would scrap the book or at least change the angle
I cant see Anyone liking or wanting to spend another second reading or listening to this book.
I Believe it could have been the narator
She had Almost a lips thAT was irritating and distrCting
I could not finish it, it was so bad.
Slip it dont waste your time.......
Not at all
This was not coherent writing. It reminded me of words thrown randomly at paper and then called a story
Disappointment and the anger at the time and book credit I wasted. I want my credit back
Don't waste time you can't get back.
coherent story? I kept waiting for a theme, or something to actually happen.
i am really not sure. it reminded me of my wife droning on to me about doing yardwork, cleaning the garage, emptying the dishwasher, etc.. until I just tuned it out....
i enjoyed the narrator - it is the only reason i made it about half way thru the book.
dissapointment. I like all the neal gaeman stories, and hoped this would be some type of derevitive. I never connected with this book, character, or anything else.
This is one of the few times that reviews led me wrong in selecting a book. I read audiobooks for a good story. I read them to enlighten me. I read them to entertain me. I read them to open my mind to something I haven't considered before. I am having a hard time knowing why I listened to this entire book. This book had no redeeming quality that I can identify.
I don't get you people who reviewed and said this was a moving experience. To me this seemed to be the ramblings of a schizophrenic's fantasy world. I did agree that many of the characteristics of IMP in the story were typical of schizophrenia. But let me just say that the flight of ideas of a psychotic mind does not make a good story. To sum up the book in a nutshell: A struggling schizophrenic goes off her meds and has a wild fantasy of having a lesbian sexual relationship with an evil ghost. Then she gets better. I just saved you 13 hrs and 13 seconds of frustration...
I will say that the narrator does a good job in the story. Otherwise, I wish that I hadn't listened to all the glowing reviews and had saved my credit for a better book.
start from the beginning and change the whole plot
get better ideas for a story
The idea of a mentally challenged girl isnt all that new so lets make her a Lesbian, that'll do it!
