This is the type of story I'll probably forget about in a couple weeks. Sure, it was entertaining, but don't expect to be blown away with cool ideas or incredible plot twists.
It's a solid effort and worth listening to. Ray Porter is phenomenal.
You can tell who I am by my reading, or can you?
This science fiction book tells the adventures of Nate and his neighbors related to the past of her condominium. Science, fantasy and conspiracy theories are mixed in a good story and a good pace. The narrator portrays the different characters with their own voices making the audiobook especially nice. Highly recommended.
14 would have been better if the Squales had eaten everyone in the first chapter. The only mystery here is that the book found a publisher.
I thought that the story was really entertaining and I liked most of the characters. This was a solid 4- 4.5 stars for me.
Surprisingly, I can't think of a book that 14 reminds me of. It's pretty unique.
*Spoiler alert* I was definitely on the edge of my seat when the group was in the other dimension trying to get back .
*Spoiler alert* I thought it was pretty hilarious how Nate and Veek eventually got together.
I didn't really like how he wrote the Andrew character. It was odd how he kept referring to him with his head tilts...
Avid marathoner and hi tech market analyst. Lover of Ken Follett, Christopher Moore, Timothy Zahn and any book that pulls me in.
I really loved the setup in this novel. The characters are interesting, the mysteries are interesting but the big reveal was a let down. Like a lot of first novels (it happened to me too) the writer gets deep into it and has to work his way out of a corner and can't really do it credibly. Too bad.
The narrator did a great job. Fun to listen to. Good with voices.
If you find this title on sale definitely download it but if you get about 75% in and there's a better book out there, stop listening and you'll think this was awesome.
I had the same experience with Michael Crichton's Sphere.
The character interaction and the cliff hanger every chapter.
The voices of everyone... Don't think I would have been as engrossed as I was.
Laughed... Hated when it ended.
This is a great book for fans of Fringe type story telling. .
Even after reading some reviews, I wasn't sure what to expect. What I got was a thoroughly enjoyable story with a strong narration. The author brought me into the mystery of the strange goings on in the apartment building. All the tenant's actions were credible to me and the story flowed nicely. It is best to not know too much in advance. I was impressed with the narrator. He built the tension when needed and did an excellent job with female voices. I had trouble putting this one down.
If you can say "I knew that would happen" after listening to this book, you lied. 14 is a great story that keeps you wondering what will happen next. Narration was not the best, there were many pauses mid sentence that took a while to get used to. Once you get into the story, you forget about the choppy narration. Overall, entertaining and enticing and I would recommend to anyone looking for a mystery/thriller.
I found myself taking my ipod everywhere just so I could listen to this book.
This is the best audiobook I have heard in a couple of years. A great mystery turns into a great sci-fi story. The characters were well developed and the story had me so involved that many times I yelled at my Ipod for a character to "run" or to instruct a character by yelling at them "don't open that door"! I also enjoyed the humor and the narrator's different vocal characterizations.
