I loved this book and will probably get a few more of Peter Clines books after this. This was one I just decided on because I had too many credits and the reviews were great so I thought I'd try it. Couldn't stop listening and it just got better as the story went on.
Great read - give it a go - you won't be disappointed. Also the narrator was terrific too. He deserves a mention because he did such a fantastic job. I'll probably have another listen at some point in the future
I am a married 54 year old mother of 2 adult kids and 2 yorkies. I love cruises and audiobooks!
The narrator was awesome! He did several different voices, they were not comical or cartoony but they fit the character and the story perfectly.
It was a unique story and I could not wait to see what was going to happen next.
His character voices. I will look for books that he narrates in the future.
I did have some "what the heck??!" moments. I also had some laughs too.
I will be 1st in line if they make a movie of this book.
I enjoyed listening to this book. Ray Porter did an excellent job of capturing the different personalities with his voices. The story was well-written but the concept was somewhat far-fetched and hard to become totally invested in. In fact, I was completely entranced with the secrets of the apartment as they were being discovered up till the point where the "Squale" made its appearance. I will refrain from any more detail so as not to spoil the story for others. Still, there was a lot of action and it was a fun listen, if only to find out how it all turned out.
I was looking forward to this book because the previews sounded so interesting. I was really enjoying it until the end. The mystery was awesome but how it turned out was so disappointing!!!
I bought this book several months before I got around to reading it and I had forgotten why I had decided to purchase it. As I began to listen, I was thinking that this was going to be a horror story and wasn't sure I would continue to listen. As the story unfolded, it became a mystery story that was quite intriguing. I couldn't stop listening! Ray Porter did a great job with the various voices and gave each person his or her own attitude. I thoroughly enjoyed this book!
This story is like an onion, if an onion were an onion on the outside and a camel on the inside. It starts off slow, but the ending is well worth it. Definitely glad I checked it out! Lots of great characters and a really fascinating plot.
First Peter Clines book i have read but not the last. this book came highly recommended to me by a buddy of mine and id did not disappoint. was a bit slow in the beginning but well worth it.
I found the author to be highly competent - his style is akin to a "popcorn movie" where you enjoy it but don't think about it much after its over.
The narrator, however, was quite good. His distinct voices for the characters really helped in immersing into the story.
I really believe that Ray Porter brings an extra sense of personality to the characters. Not just the voices, but portraying them as separate people.
14 would make an enjoyable miniseries on SciFi. It would provide a week's worth of fun on tv.
Say something about yourself!
The narrator was entertaining enough. Perhaps it just was not my type of story. I was entertained, but not enthralled. Other than the fact that I hate to not finish a book, I Could have easily just left it .....
I bought this audio book on a whim, the cover looked interesting and the brief blurb I listened too was pretty good. It was AWESOME! There were times I literally did not want to get out of my car and go into work! The voices were done well and the author did a great job of creating richly detailed characters that you rooted for.
I usually listen to science fiction/fantasy or murder mysteries - I am very glad I broadened my scope to include this book!
