I not only would, but have already. It is lucky I can listen to books all day with my current occupation and employer. The instant this recording was over I recommended it to every reader in my vicinity.
It is not extremely comparable to other books I have read in recent memory. However, it does have similarities to "The House of Leaves", a brilliant mystery set up and great sci-fi overtones.
This book took a major turn for the worse for me when they opened the door. There was a whole lot of build up, with a semi- ridiculous climax.
If only I knew. Maybe Game of Thrones
I was prepared to consider this book "filler" until I got more credits. I didn't expect to like it. However, I became totally engrossed in part 1 and almost wrote a review at that point stating how really interesting the plot evolution was.
Then came part 2, and the (SPOILER ALERT!) evil flying squid-whales in a false universe (a la Matrix) stretched my interest a bit far. At this point, I was just marking time for it to come to its predictable conclusion. It's not that I don't love Matrix-like plots, but this got a bit ridiculous, especially with all the Scooby Do references.
All in all, though, I think it an acceptable read (I would probably stop at the end of part 1), especially if you don't spend a credit on it. The author can build a plot, and he just needs to restrain the urge to leap into never never land.
JD Robb fan!!
Awsome! Wish this was a series! Leaves you wanting the story to continue!
Would love to see this story continue with a book 2, 3, exc!
To live, to love, to leave a legacy.
The pacing was perfect and the characters remember-able. I'll miss going up to the roof for a drink
Opening the door to 14.
1st listen. Porter was masterful and transitioned in and out of characters with remarkable fluidness.
***Spoiler Alert*** Veek and Nates first kiss.
I took a chance on this audio book based on the genre and the glowing reviews and I am glad I did. Clines is a very gifted writer who took the time to care for the characters he created. I will start on the Ex series next.
Fun, Mysterious, Different
I can't think of another book to compare it to. There's mystery, monsters, other dimensions, and everyday life.
Yes, it made me laugh several times. There were movie references that caught me off guard and 'Ah HA' moments that kept me listening longer.
This fantasy mystery book was well written. I enjoyed learning about all the characters and wondering about what they would do next or where the story was going. I've never read a Peter Cline's book before. I can't wait to try another one of his books.
Not sure why I was surprised, I thoroughly enjoy Peter's "Ex" series, and this was even better. Characters are nicely developed (maybe a little cliched, but it works), story is interesting with well placed twists and turns, and the narrator is great.
By Peter Clines
Narrated by Ray Porter
Length 12 hr. 34 min. 48 sec.
Let us start with the narrator. This is a professional. From the get go the reader was absolutely sure who in the book was busy speaking at any given moment. His pacing and his cadence was expertly done and intrigued and never ever bored or annoyed. Brilliant. 5 * job.
I buy books based on covers or known authors. I fell in love with this cover and only read the blurb while I was already listening to the audio book. So according to me the cover is 5*
A good mix of mostly everyday people with no special talents or extra sensory perception was refreshing. Given Tim could do a few things the average Joe cannot but then so could Veek. I fell in love with the characters and the author threw me for a loop with one of them turning out to be other than I figured.
Amazing. Need I say more?
Fresh, new, familiar enough to be comfortable and in that lies the crux. It is this same familiarity that drew me in thinking…ok so the fuss is? By the time the fuss is explained I was already hooked and could not put the book down. I did not want to put the book down. Amazing story.
So to recap.
If you are looking for a thriller written by a master in the genre this is the book for you.
If you love plot twists and unexpected happenings, this is the book for you.
If you, like me, love an ending that is neatly wrapped and done then this is the book for you.
So. What are you waiting for?
The plot of 14 is awesome and will keep you wondering what in the world is up with the new apartment the protagonist has moved into. Narration was good, although I think the accents and female parts came off a little odd at times.
Photographer's Moll, Chicken breeder, school administrator and owned by four dogs. Busy life, Happy life!
So how is it that I loved this book? I couldn't stop listening! A 5 Star story and performance, I urge you to give it a try. I'm going to see if there's anything else by this author.
