I am a working mom and wife and don't have much time to read books, so listening to them in the car is my new hobby!
One of the most surprising books I've listened to on audible. It does not go where you think it might and keeps you wondering until the end.
I liked the characters and wanted to find out what happened to all of them. Normally, when several people are introduced in a story, I get annoyed trying to keep up with everyone's details, but this book is easy to follow and you want to know what is happening next.
No, but the performance was great. I liked his different voices and accents- it is actually funny at times.
No clue, this book is so bizzare, I think a movie would be ridiculous.
Listen to it until the end. Just when you think it's bizzare, keep listening.... it gets even weirder!
Part Tales of the City, part Scooby Doo with a bit of John Dies in the End...how could you not like a book like this. Very different.
I haven't written a review for mostly any of the audio books I listen to, save The Iron Druid Chronicles which I love so much.
This story got me from the start and never stopped. I have never read a book that I was so very disappointed there is not a sequel. I found myself feeling sad after this story was over longingly hoping for MORE. I fell in love with all the characters. The flow of the story was read so well, and each character has such a rich personality. I am now going to start listening to the other books Peter has written.
No, but now I'm going to.
The performance was superb. The story was gripping enough from the start all the way through to the middle, but then it ran thin, leaving much unexplained. It was a shame for I had high hopes for it in the strong beginning.
I only give 5 stars when a book draws me in within minutes and makes me not want to stop listening. I live in LA and the traffic can be horrendous. Great audible books make the time enjoyable.
14 grabs you from the start and draws you in to the mystery... you will find yourself feeling like you are one of the 'mystery crew" . The characters are well developed, but not to the point of tedium... War and peace this book is not; fun it is.
14 started out a bit slow and the style of writing took a bit of getting used to, but a few chapters in I was hooked. Peter Clines does a masterful job of building character, building suspense, building plot. Ray Porter does an exceptional job with narration. His Squale is especially convincing
Although the book is far, far more than this, I would say that "Lovecraft for the 21st century" would not be a bad way of describing this book in just a few words.
Outstanding adventure novel
Every time they explored a new section of the building for the first time. Which was bascially every chapter.
I had never heard Ray Porter before "14", but he was excellent, put him righ up there with Will Wheaton. He nails all the accents.
Loved this book from start to finish. Wish it was longer.
14 is in the top ten of the audiobooks I've listened to so far.
Well, I don't want to provide a spoiler. There is an adventurous tipping point when the story goes from strange and interesting but relatively mundane to "wait... What?!"
I believe this is a first Ray Porter performance for me, but I enjoyed the reading!
This is a book I found myself reacting out loud to events... Gasping "OH NO!" or "No way, you are not going to do that to this character!"
Give it a try!
Yes. Overall, it was fun and I think I got a credit's worth out of it.
Ray Porter used a variety of accents for the characters and did it so that it enhanced the story.
The reviews encouraged me to try this book and I'm glad I did. The stage-setting at the beginning was somewhat off-putting, but soon the freshness of the story soon pulled me in. I used this book as light entertainment to unwind with at the end of the day. It wasn't difficult to keep up with, yet unexpected events and character interactions kept me listening. Not a life-altering tale, but worth reading.
can spoil the story
A story that traps your mind on a roller coaster ride of questions.
Very good suspens.e I really like the writer. The narrator and his many character voices was wonderful as well.
