If you are like me, I like the prey books as decent, suspenseful, quick reads, not unlike one of Robert Parker's Spencer novels. Entertaining and enjoyable. I missed a few of the early ones, so am picking them back up on audio here and there.
The narrator is great. The characters are so well-rounded. After listening to the book, I also listened to the author's note about how political the first draft of this story was. But after final edits Sanford managed to make you sympathetic to the cause of the antagonists and root for the good guys with a well-written thriller.
I loved the premier of this series and I was excited about the second installment. Boy was I disappointed. This book feels like it doesnt know what it wants to be. The lead bad guy is paper thin and confusing. I will be returning this book.
This book was not as good as the first, but was still just a great book! I did not think it seemed true murderer/serial killer fashion like I was hoping for after the first Lucas Davenport book. This book was more so a social warfare drama with some casualties on the way of finding the lead perpetrators. I want to hear more about the crazy mind of a killer like Rules of Prey did for us. I will keep reading and listening though.
One of Sandford's earlier works and I'm new to his offerings but I totally enjoyed this thriller. Great characters and thoroughly entertaining. Can't wait to start the next one.
still it was engaging. i probably needed more depth. Lucas Davenport seemed a little unrealistic even though the writer explores more of his personality.
Gift Subscription for my lovely wife.
Would've preferred the narrator acted a bit more instead of just reading it. I think I would've been more engaged in the story had the narrator actually put some life into the characters other than that it's a solid thriller.
Sure, it keeps you hangin.
I will listen to him but his Jersey accent doesn't fit Minnisooooota
Sandford needs to keep his liberal feelings out of his writings
It starts off by gripping my interest and not letting go! I definitely recommend this book!
The climax - the final showdown between good and evil - blew my mind. I was so nervous for Lucas and his family! I could barely breathe! Thank goodness for the safe!!
Lucas - he has a cool, alpha male "swag" about him, and I can feel it through Richard Ferrone's voice.
The beginning of the book was heartbreaking. Without giving away much, my heart ached for the poor girl. She was a human being...somebody's daughter. All I could think to myself is 'She will never be the same.'
I have purchased the next two books in this series! I love the Prey series thus far and plan to listen to each and every book!!!
