This wasn't my favourite book to listen to but it was okay. Most definitely not a "page turner" but the story was interesting enough. I never truly got invested in the characters so I was never really rooting for anyone. The story itself was a nice easy listen, but unlike some other books I didn't look forward to my daily commute because of it.
The Narrator was good, but I am really not a good judge of this because I've never really had a problem with any of the narrators so far.
I rarely re-listen to a novel, but I would listen to this one again.
I enjoyed the way the author developed the characters and wove their individual stories together. I also enjoyed the way the story wove through time from 1962 to present day and back and forth. I would recommend this book highly
The story was interesting but sometimes the author would get so detailed in minor things that I would put the book down for days and not be tempted to pick it back up. For me a really great book I can't put down because I can't wait to see what happens next. This is not that book. The story is a journey and in the end you expect all the parts to come together and they do but unfortunately for me I didn't care because the characters were not interesting enough. I know others really liked this book but it was just okay for me. The narrator was fantastic, if it wasn't for him I wouldn't have finished the story.
A “Great Gatsby” wanta be that missed the mark. A sweet little book that I would NOT recommend. The last few chapters are extremely slow, wordy and boring.
122 titles and counting i really should review more!
i listen to more guy friendly books, more of a John Grisham, Micheal Connoly, Jim Butcher, kinda guy. and it took me a little bit for this book to get me hooked but when it did it set the hooks in deep. if like me you like a little more action upfront. give it some more time it is worth the payout.i loved it and i hated when it ended. also i don't give many reviews but i think this GEM is marvelous.
I don't know what drew me to this book but I am so glad I took the time to listen. Loved the story and the narration. It really drew me in. I couldn't wait for it to end so but now I can't wait to listen again. I don't often (never) listen to books more than once really but this one may be the one I listen to again. I highly recommend it.
I am a fiber artist and teacher. I love moderate action, plot twists, diverse characters and much romance.
I enjoyed this because it was set in Cinque Terre and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival (both of which I have been lucky enough to visit), Portland (near where I live), Sand Point (friend from there), Seattle (sister lives there) and Hollywood (whatever).
I truly liked one of the characters and the others were fairly interesting. The narration was great at first, but after awhile his speech patterns became a little too predictable to my ear. I think if you were really into movies this might be more interesting. Maybe it just tried to cover too much ground for me, though I did enjoy the historical flashbacks interspersed throughout.
I was expecting a great book just based on reviews and that is not what I got. The narration was fine, but the story was awful. It jumps back and forth in time telling stories and it just doesn't work. I stuck with it and made it about 75% of the book. I just kept waiting for it to get better. I finally gave up and didn't finish it.
This book was a great listen. It is rich with well developed characters, nostalgia, excitement and clever twists. Beautiful ruins is a wonderful story reinforcing the idea of living every moment in the present. For days I've been quoting the characters and their wisdom. Very enjoyable and sad to see it finished.
