awesome voices and sound effects... good story line soo far.. looking forward to the next book in the series... thanks again!
This book pics up right where Heir to the Empire left off. We again follow Luke, Han, Leia, Mara, and Thrawn. We learn more about the Islamari (and yes, I am guessing at the spelling as this was an audiobook, don't judge) and why they have such an affinity with Darth Vader and such loyalty to the Empire. We also get to learn more about Master C'baoth (spoiler alert, NUT JOB) and see his interaction with other characters. We get some new characters which is also fun, and the political intrigue just keeps brewing.
Marc Thompson does a decent job with what he has to work with. He does interesting voices (although, I've stated before I don't enjoy it when he tries the female voices) to different characters and then the additional sounds (music, blasters, sounds of moving space ships) add a lot to the overall performance.
As for the plot.... Meh. It is one action sequence, dialogue, another action sequence, more dialogue, and some more. The transitions don't work very well which makes the novel seem choppy at times. I will get the last book just to finish out the trilogy, but this wasn't the best sci-fi book I've ever read.
I have enjoyed the entirety of this trilogy. I remember loving this trilogy when I read it upon original release, but hearing Mark Thompson narrate, with his wide range of voice work, combined with all the sound effects and music, truly bring these stories to life.
Any time Thrawn is present, he steals the show. He has always been one of the most memorable EU characters for me.
Everything. He is the best narrator I have come across, and has a wide range of voices that the throws at every single character. He doesn't merely read the text to you, like every other narrator, he actually impersonates the voice and energy of the character, making the story so much more enjoyable. It is literally as if a Star Wars movie was playing in my car while driving.
It was a pretty well-paced ride.
If you like Star Wars, you cannot go wrong with this series. It is hands down, one of the best things to come out of the original expanded universe.
I have a long commute and love to learn. Self help and fantasy are probably my favorite genres.
Incredible follow-up to the first Thrawn book. Excellent voice acting and character progression. Great book!
I listen to a lot of audiobooks.
I see now where George might have gotten his ideas about adding layers and layers of boring politics to the Star Wars saga...
I have listened to the first two books of the series & both are entertaining but the this one is far more entertaining then the first book.
The introduction of other Jedi's was interesting.
He didn't just "read" his tone would at times help improve clamatic parts.
Based on the great book series.
