I would recommend this book to a friend (starting with book 1 of course) because it has all the greatness of Star Wars without the intelligence insulting story of most other Star Wars EU and prequels.
Well, that's a little hard without spoilers. But I guess I'd have to say Han Solo situational and reactionary cleverness at any given situation he finds himself in.
Do books have scenes? I guess the best imagery I have was the escape of the Millennium Falcon from the Star Destroyer.
Thrawn marshals his forces, to destroy the Republic forever.
Rad reading, rad story, it's worth your monthly credit. But start with book 1.
The whole book
The way he was able to do the characters voices.
Lots of fun to be had here, assuming you've read/listened to the Heir to the Empire and plan to finish the story with The Last Command. Thompson's goofy voices are in full effect here, including several new aliens (mercifully, no Wookiees) and some continuity among the bit players. Aves sounds like young Jack Nicholson and Wedge Antilles is way more of a tough guy than he ever appeared in the movies. His "distinguished southern gentleman" reading of Lando Calrissian remains my favorite of the bunch.
A nitpick! What's with everyone "permitting themselves a smile" in the second to last chapter?
1. "Perhaps." Brandei permitted himself a slight smile. So it always went with rebels.
2. "Right," Mara said, permitting herself a sardonic smile. For all the good that would do.
3. And as the bridge crew moved to comply, Brandei permitted himself a tight smile. Yes, they'd lost this one.
There's a lot more wrong with this story -- the primary sin would be scenes that don't go anywhere, which would never be in a Lucas film -- but the overall production is done with such love it's really hard to find fault. If you like the Star Wars, this is one of the better extension books, especially in audible format.
Marc Thompson is by far one of my favorite narrators. His performance is always superb, he never disappoints. He makes the experience of listening to these audiobooks extremely enjoyable.
It's a starwars book. They are all great, I have read and listened to many, and this series is one of my favorites.
Marc Thompson does the voice of Han Solo to the "t". Everything about his performance as Han is spot on. So, of course this is my choice.
Dark Force Rising.
Another great book by Timothy Zahn, with a phenomenal performance by Marc Thompson.
Love Audible!! Hope you all do too!
The storyline is great!
No comparison! The Thrawn Trilogy Stands Alone!
Again, Marc Thompson is a BRILLIANT multi-voice actor!
I loved this Trilogy! (I refer not only to this book, but to the entire Thrawn Trilogy because in my opinion it cannot be judged except as a whole)
It continued the Star Wars experience for me and kept me hooked form beginning to end.
Marc Thompson has a real way with the voices of each character, very convincing!
I think it is a great "first place" to begin after you have watched episodes 1-6. You do not have to have read any of those books to enjoy these.
Great extension of the Star Wars universe. Didn't care much for how Luke continues to be a bit whiny, but still a great read/listen. Mark Thompson does an amazing job of the voices for Luke, Leia, Han, and Lando.
If you like the Star Wars universe, you'll definitely enjoy these books.
Near the top
Everything about Admiral Thrawn
PLEASE redue all other Star Wars book in unabridged form!!!
So many plot twist, when you think the New Republic is gonna catch a break... then you are left mouth open. I am not gonna spoil anything but the new spieces in this book is fantastic
Probally Luke in this book
Yes listened to the whole thrawn series and loved every book
its like a glass of fine wine, you wanna take it in slowly till your hammered wanting more wine at the end of the bottle( the book)
First off - I have found it very difficult to listen to other audio books after hearing the performance by Marc. He is about as good as it gets. You truly find yourself 'hearing and seeing' the characters. His inflections are damn near perfect. Truly amazed. Add a powerful story (the whole trilogy!) to his skill - and you are in for a great ride!
All of them! Lando and Han - were spot on! All characters were unique!
