I read these books in the 90s and had a bit of a Star Wars craving. Not the biggest Star Wars but but felt old characters definitely fit the vibe and new characters were interesting and worth caring about. Great additions to Star Wars world.
Truly better than I could've imagined! This truly continues the original three movies. The narrator is really impressive that he captures all of the characters nuances, voices, and personalities.
Great narration! Amazing story! I would recommend any Stars Wars fan read it! Thrawn is an amazing villain. Sad this is no longer canon. :-(
I love Star Wars in all its glory. But the continuos coincidences and chance encounters stole from my overall enjoyment. I still plan on getting the lady book in the series
The voice and recording quality of this book is amazing. I feel like I am in a Star Wars movie. The voices of Luke Leah and Han are true to the actors, and the sound effects help shape the story in my mind.
This is the second book of the three book series. I found the first book in the series to be almost boring and not very innovative. This book starts to become more innovative and I can't quite read what will happen next as I could in the first book.
I hope the movies follow this story line it's by far the best audio book I have ever listened to. Keeps you on the edge of your seat and brings back so many great Star Wars feelings from my childhood Luke is still DA Man!
I read the Thrawn trilogy a couple of times years ago (in paper edition). I remembered them as being really good books...but I forgot just how totally fantastic they are. Until now.
The story is great---Timothy Zahn really captured the world of Star Wars, the feel for the stories and the characters (now 5 years after the events in Return of the Jedi) as they build the New Republic and still war with the remnant of the Empire. The new characters he added fit into the Star Wars universe perfectly. Zahn's pacing, story elements and writing just make them fun books. On top of that, Zahn wrote these books in the early 1990's, so they are not contaminated by the prequel trilogy.
I would give Marc Thompson's narration 6 or even 7 stars if I could. He managed to catch many of the voices so sound much like the original actors from the films. Maybe not perfectly, but quite good given that it all came from one larynx...I assume the post-production played some games to enhance that, but even so. Amazing.
The post-production also added music and background sound effects to try to enhance the effect. In general, I liked that, although I think it got distracting on occasion.
The Thrawn series is published as a trilogy, but really it is one, large 3-part novel. You will need to commit to finishing the whole thing...especially since you will have a hard time putting it down once you start.
Excellent story with an excellent voice actor, great sound effects make this trilogy a satisfying listen. The continuation of the story puts our heroes back in peril much like Empire did in the original trilogy.
