Gone Girl represents a departure from traditional mystery and even suspense fare by leading the listener on a twisting trail that demands changing allegiances and second-guessing. It is a crafty tail that defies easy guesses and it's worth it to hang in there with the book.
If you expect your readers to suspend real possibility to the extent we have to with Gone Girl, then you'd better make the ending worth it. Make us be really glad we hung in there even through the slow parts. Unfortunately, this one didn't do that for me at all. I respect that writing a novel is hard work. I tried to give this one a fair chance, even after wanting to give up several times. In retrospect, I should've quit while I was ahead. Kudos to the marketing team, though. This title was everywhere.
I thought the narrators did a great job.
Not without major reworking...
You think you know what's going on, but you don't. Just when you think you have something figured out, there is another twist and turn and you are totally surprised. I didn't want to stop listening! Maybe the ending could have been better, but I'm not sure how one would end a story like this. My goodness though, what a story.
It was 18 hours...i would not listen to it again since it was so long.
Amy, she is a crazy temptress.
I appreciated their impression of each other and the other characters, always distinct voices but not unbelievable.
no. take your time...it took me 6 days to get through it.
A very elegant and carefully planned love and hate story. It was amazing.
This book starts off very slow. It takes a while to get into it. Then you can't stop. Hopefully there are not people out there that are this calculating and manipulative. The narrator's helped break up the story into a his and her story. Great book.
Dialog was terrible and story was predictable. Almost anything could have made it better.
Narration was good but they had very little to work with. The mail character was clearly written by a women because no man talks or thinks this way.
Disappointment that I waited my time and money
This is without a doubt the absolute worst book I have to which I have ever listened. I'll give it some credit for a few plot twists, but then it was just like the author gave up and mailed it in...
I downloaded this because it was an "audible pick" and seemed to have some buzz about it. I now think that must have been a joke, or one of those things where someone says it's cool because it is so bad it must be good somehow.
Don't bother and don't waste your time on this.
I could not believe that after all that, the author left you with that kind of ending. Seriously, I think the book was a complete waste of time.
No I think that narrators did their jobs, its not their fault about what happens in the book.
I can not believe that this book a best seller and they are making a movie about it.
Smart, unpredictable, addicting
I felt the dialogue was very real-to-life and the characters were so well-written, smart and quick-witted.
Julia Whelan was awesome!
better ending.... really didn't end!
they gave a good performance
The book started out very slow, than got real good, and the the ending pissed me off.... felt like I wasted 19 hours!
