So glad I haven't seen the movie! I'm sure this is the best book I've ever listened to or read. I have recommended to several of my friends.
Amy... extremely cunning and wicked and ...
No, but I have heard some narrators that juast shouldn't, These two are great!
YES! Made me sad, then surprised, then disgusted, then ....
Can't wait to try another of her books.
Very interesting, yet odd book. What a knuckle biter. I was intrigued by the characters and pulled into the story. I was thrown by some of the twists, and yet, I kept coming back.
Author Reggie Ridgway
Great story. It's rare for a villain to be both terrifying and yet likable. Most of the narrative is told in first person. Switching from one person to the other is entertaining and horrifying. It gives you goosebumps when you know something and want to warn the main character to not go there Danger but they do anyway. Great story.
I found the entire book to be very whiny and obnoxious. Both of the main characters are unlikable. I was interested in Amy when I first learned she was a sociopath, but she didn't live up to expectations. She showed emotion and a real connection to nick, which isn't like a sociopath. She seemed more like a meticulous narcissist to me. Nick became compelling once he started trying to outsmart Amy and lure her home, but in the end he completely submits to her. That's maddening to me. I would have loved for Amy to succeed in framing Nick, or for Nick to have gotten revenge, but instead it ends exactly as it started. The only good part of this book is the twist. Everything before and after is just two spouses incessantly bitching and complaining about each other.
listening to another book.
There were a few clever moments where the antagonist was one step ahead.
I hated the narrators. They both had a certain whiney American accent that wasn't helped at all by some of the worst prose this side of the Twilight novels. Both characters were unlikable in the extreme, and the damn ending was... not great.
I watched the movie after finishing the book (also screen written by Gillian Flynn) which did a better job of the pacing, and tightened up a few of the dumber actions by the antagonist - but the terrible prose, unlikable characters and that damn ending made it just as bad..
not for me.
