Yuck. This was a horribly written book full of cheap twists and weak characterization. I listened to it because I'd spent money on it and had to follow it through, but if this is what Americans want to read ... wow. God save us all.
It was an exciting psychological thriller.
The end was disappointing, otherwise I would give this 5 stars.
A smile is the sexiest curve on your body!
At first I was drawn in- of course things are never as they seem... especially Amy! I found myself puzzling over the "Anniversary Clues" during times I should have been concentrating on things of much more importance. Gone Girl draws you in- makes you sad, empathetic, and astonished. Great book- a must read!
This book was so funny! I honestly hadn't seen the reviews, just bought it because I tend to like longer books (seems like I get more for my money that way). The story moved along quickly, had lots of twists and surprises down to the end.
I haven't heard either narrator before. I thought that both were great...at first, I thought the whiny voice of Amy very irritating, until I later realized why she sounded how she did. This was one of the best audiobooks I've listened to, both for the entertainment value and the narration.
The story seems rather confusing at times (purposely), and it's difficult to figure out what is really going on until one is well into the story. A nice surprise, considering how in most novels the reader or listener can, for the most part, figure out what's going on and the probable ending 1/4 into the book. This one keeps you guessing the whole time! Hopefully the movie will be as good.
No because I can retain the awesomeness the first go round.
It's real life. Dumb, stupid man story with a delicious twisted twist. Love it!
Kirby's part didn't mesh with dynamic nature of Nick - his voice was not as manly as I would've liked. Julia's part was dead on with how I'd envision Amy to sound.
I can relate to ALL of this. This is priceless, true, riveting. All too common social tragedy run a muck.
Yes, it is a deep story that keeps your interest.
While there were some things that felt like they were predictable, there were things that also kept you surprised, and unsure what would happen next.
No I have not.
Where is Amazing Amy?
This book is awesome. There are twists and turns, and just when you think you have it figured out, everything changes. What great writing. Gillian Flynn leads you exactly where she wants you to go and you will love every second of it. Outside of the mystery, there are some great discussions of views on relationships, men and women that I really enjoyed. Julia Whelan's performance is amazing. She's one of my favorite narrators. I can't rate this highly enough. I have no idea how the movie will be able to stand up to this performance.
I haven't read the print version, but I imagine the audio version is not better. Some of the conversations weren't delivered as well as they could have been and some of the voices for side characters were not well done.
The plot is great at the beginning, then starts to slow towards the middle, but then it is a great roller coaster ride in the last half.
I like how each portrayed Nick and Amy, but I didn't much like how they performed the other characters.
Gone Girl...but where did she go?
What a great book! My 4th book on audible and I loved it. It was narrated brilliantly. The voice of Amy was stellar! The 1st part of the book did start out a little slow, but not slow enough for me to lose attention. I had a feeling something was off with Amy Dunn, but had no idea what was in store. It is hard to write this review without spoiling, so lets just say that I thought that thoughout Part 2, I found myself thinking, hooray! karma is a bitch! I loved how this married couple really "knew" eachother. Very key in this story. I would have given the story 5 stars, but I did not like the very last chapter and ending. Can not wait for the movie to come out now!!
Doctor. Triathlete. Fairly new to the audiobook game, but have gone through 200 in past 18 months: addicted!
reads like a story written by a spouse's whos had her feelings hurt. I do wonder what is going to happen, but I just can't bear the tone of this the writing any more
