The plot was diabolical, well crafted, and well portrayed by the two readers. Yet, after the "gone girl's" plot is revealed at the end, the whole story is more fun to ponder than to dissect line by line.
Oddly enough, The Night Circus, which I also loved. They were different from each other, yet had the same strong pull to keep the reader/listener engaged and surprised right up to the end.
I wondered about that, too, since I only took in the book auditorially. The readers seemed so real and so honest in their portrayals that it took quite a while to figure out who "the bad guy" was going to turn out to be.
No laughter, no tears, just a curiosity about the future these two created for the people involved in their lives.
It's a good listen!
I enjoyed the separate characters telling their side of the story. It made for an interesting read/listen.
They brought the book to life in their performance
At first the foul language was a little offensive and if I was reading this I could have mentally skipped over this, however when you are listening it blurts it out to you. Surprisingly this was part of the storyline, and it was effective and I got used to this being part of the characters. I just couldn't listen to it in the car with the kids. :(
Really liked the twisting plots. It kept my attention.
consultant and coach
I enjoyed the twists and turns but soon I got sick of both main characters - they became annoying.

Dark story which slowly reveals itself, keeping you always captivated. Great character depth, wonderfully brought out by Gillian Flynn. I especially liked the narrative styles and the two narrators did an awesome job. Overall very satisfying.
It is far from the best I have listened to, but is is far from the worst. It would easily be in my top 15.
The story was very original. There were many twists in the book that I did not see coming.
I was amazed at what the characters could get away with. Scary to think about. I would hate to be so trapped in my life.
The story, the writing
I can't tell you. Too many spoilers.
unlikeable characters make this a great book!
Terrific performances by both readers. The story was easy to enjoy with lots of twists and turn. I was hoping the ending would be just as much fun. Enjoyed the read but the ending was disappointing.
These two were the shinning point in this entire book. I felt both narrators brought life to the characters. Kirby was especially good at making me feel sorry for Nick. Julia was a superstar at playing Amy to her most evil.
I seriously could not delete this book from my iphone fast enough. Dirty.....is the only way I can describe how I felt when I got to the end. There was not one tolerable character in the entire story! A book SHOULD make you feel a sense of satisfaction having read it. This one just made me feel depressed.
I listened to the entire book. In general, I believe my disappointment was with the story more than the performances. For a best selling book, with the focus on characterization, not plot, I felt the characters were so inconsistent that they made the plot nonsensical. The main female character's personality was plot driven. She had to be a genius with a pathological borderline personality disorder in order for the plot to work, yet her character was very abruptly revealed to the listener. I expected more from a well known title.
What would you call this Genre?
I did not love the narrators. They were okay.
I did like this book, though I’m not sure it is quite worth all of the hype and the mountains of 5 star reviews it is receiving. The one characteristic of this author’s writing style that I really found appealing was her ability to reference so many pop culture events, etc. from her formative years. I’m guessing we are similar in age (41) because so many of them were extremely familiar and things I remember growing up. Many twists and turns in the book, and very interesting characters—that’s about all I can say without ruining the plot. The narration was adequate, though I’ve listened to other books with the same male narrator and scored them very low; the female voice was fine.
