What I loved best was the supremely masterful talent Gillian Flynn has for crafting out such a clever and tantalizing story. This is one author who shouldn't get lost in the mix.
It's CLEVER. Gillian Flynn didn't just create any old psychopath. This one is remarkably intelligent, and I imagine could outwit the devil himself.
They were fantastic! I cannot say enough good things about their performance. Each one contributed equally to the story, and they were so believable, it required no effort on the listener's part at all to accept them as their characters from the very first words out of their mouths.
This is my second Gillian Flynn audiobook, and today I begin my third. This masterful author is not just imaginative, she has the highly strategic intelligence of a four-star Army General. Her writing is multi-layered, like a game of Clue, all stitched together with surgical precision. I've read/listened to thousands of books by hundreds of authors, and I'm telling you, THIS author is superb.
On the 5th anniversary of Nick and Amy Dunne, Amy goes missing, the house shows signs of a struggle and Nick is not being totally being dishonest with the police. As each day passes with Amy’s disappearance more and more evidence appears suggesting that Nick has killed his wife – but Nick insist he is innocent. Written in 2 POV, Amy’s through her diary and of Nick as he follows his wife’s anniversary treasure hunt - of which all have double meaning. Gillian Flynn had written quite the psychological thriller, a story that paints quite the picture – of a toxic and dishonest marriage, a story that is full of twist and turns and at times rather disturbing. Just when you think you have figured it out, you turn the page and hit in the face a big OMG. While I wasn’t total enamored with the ending it was certainly chilling.
Amy was read by Julia Whelan who portrayed Amy as the perfect psychopath wife and Nick was read Kirby Heyborne.
Great plot, great narrators, loved every minute of it! Didn't want to put it down. If you are a mystery fan, you won't be disappointed.
has to be my top 3 picks
yes, i could not stop listening. I wanted more and more.
Great book! I will listen to over and over
What a wonderful book full of twists and turns! I didn't want to stop listening. 19 hours went by way too fast. Interested to listen to some of this authors other books now.
Absolutely. I never saw the next twist coming!
Tell us about yourself! I am a 43 year old wanna be intellect. I love people doing things for me and i guess that includes my reading! My interests vary widely so this site is right up my alley....maybe too much so!!!
I would have liked to see a certain character screw up a little bit!!
I would have tried to put in a mistake that psycho wouldnt have thought about and let that character being completely taken by surprise by it and in a public setting
Kirby's and Julia's performances were brilliant and a bright spot to the story, when the 2nd part of the book started it sent me to the floor as they had me picturing something totally different. It reminded me of the book called the Collector and intill you see the point of view from someone else you actually start feeling for the psycho
Recheck my wifes background!!!
This stroy deserves a five I just wanted it to end differently, but it ended as it should have and it's psychological insights were scary. We do put on a different character thoose first years of marriage, and as the divorce rate suggests when that facade is gone most marriages can't handle it. Are we always pretending. Amys quote that love should have conditions will haunt me for a long time to come
Yes. The story starts out fairly slow and if you weren't paying attention you may have missed some things. Due to all the twists and turns and thoughts in main characters head, hard to keep the real facts straight.
Unbelieveable actions from antagonist.
Kirby's voice was a bit annoying at first (too high pitched) but then you got used to it. By the end, both narrators really were perfect for their characters. Made you really visual who they were.
Not all in one seating because it was too long but definitely as fast as you could listen.
Excellent performance. Both of the narrators deliver fluid performance & consistence. The story itself offers various twists & keeps you wanting to listen more.
(SPOILERS!!!) Maybe I just want the world to be a just place. I realize it is not. I have been in a relationship that didn't go well and I have known crazy women who make up abuse stories. I had this crazy chick nailed from the get go. The fact that her husband can never escape her left me with an unerved feeling of sadness and I wondered how many men and women cannot escape injustice. Warn your sons and daughters if there are warning signs pre-marriage those become the red flags of marriage. Nick had plenty of warning signs to let him know to walk (manipulating, selfish, and dramatic were all there).
This wasn’t my kind of story. I didn’t really care for the way it was written from the beginning, but I hoped it would get better. It didn’t.
The constant jumping back and forth between character thoughts and the slow movement of the storyline just wasn't my cup of tea. This wasn't one of those books that kept me on the edge of my seat or made me feel I didn't want to put it down. After listening a while, I found these characters thoughts were annoying and depressing.
Although the storyline wasn't my favorite, the narration was excellent! The two narrators did a great job.
