Another great one in this awesome series! Suspenseful, intriguing, leave you guessing until the end, great piece of writing. Yes, I'd definitely recommend this book, this writer, this narrator, and this series!!
Eclectic bookworm...I listen to a little bit of everything. Give up after listening to something for 20 minutes and don't like it.
I found this installment of the Matthew Corbett series to be entertaining, but I’ve been starting to note that that the scenarios he finds himself in seem to get more and more unrealistic with each book.
Not that I necessarily minded, but the plot of this book, which entails Matthew, Barry, and Zede being taken to a “castle” on an island in Bermuda, was completely far-fetched. And while the other books had an element of gritty realism, I felt that The Providence Rider was more action mixed with fantasy than action mixed with history.
The combination of the boat trip, the castle, and the exotic setting definitely reminded me of old school James Bond films, and the female characters - Minx, Aria, and “Fancy,” were totally straight out of James Bond. I noted in my review of Mister Slaughter that the series was starting to take on a Harry Potter feel - this time I was reminded of James Bond, Zorro, and Peter Pan.
Despite the lack of realism, McCammon manages to pull the plot off - at least in my opinion. And even though I suspect that none of the books in the rest of the series are going to be as epically good as Speaks the Nightbird, I will definitely be getting books 5 & 6.

it was by far my least favorite in this series by Robert McCammon. but I love the Matthew Corbett series of books so I'll listen to the next one and hope it is more like the previous in the series.
I've read all the other books in this series and enjoyed them...the first two more than the third. But this one I simply can't get into. I've started and abandoned it 3 times and that's my limit. It's boring, confusing, implausible and just not worth anymore of my time. The narration was fine so that wasn't an issue. I just didn't care about any character in the story.
Keeps you wanting more! okay...that's 4 words, but who cares :)
getting all the clues and putting the pieces together.
My first audio books narrated by Edoardo Ballerini and his voice is wonderful! Going from one character to another and never missing a beat
The wit of the writer is fabulous. He gives you a good chuckle and then throws in some unexpected grossness that keeps you wanting more
All in all the Matthew Corbett novels are awesome! I've finished 6 Robert McCammon books in about a month and about the get the 7th! Keep up the good work!
Excellent book, excellent performance, fabulous and detailed characters! The only thing to keep me from rating this book at 100% is that the material can be disturbing to hear at times. McCammon knows how to write evil and it's twisted, gruesome forms. I cringed a time or two in this read. Otherwise, another excellent work from a master storyteller, start to finish!
Book 4 and I'm not even close to being tired of the predicaments that Matthew Corbett seems to find himself in. This is yet another engrossing novel in the series and it's just as fresh and enjoyable as the first. I am a bit concerned about Matthew's sex life, as he cannot seem to have "experiences" where he is not a captive to the charms of an aggressive female; a notable occurrence on all four books thus far. This was another colorful ride with characters old and new, continuing to weave our favorite characters throughout. What will happen next? One more book awaits!!!
