great story, the author has a creative mind.recommended to listeners who are bored by the average run-of- the-mill mystery plot.
I loved this book, interesting set up, suspenseful story, with plot twists but the two main characters and their relationship dynamics really take center stage. You're taken on a fantastic ride of finding out what the hell is going on. Nick and Amy are so well written, authentic and relatable and the narrator's are excellent.
I was pleasantly surprised by this book, it really woks well as a portrait of ‘love among the imperfect’.
This is a love story. If you do not want to read a love story this is definite not for you. I got it as a gift, and (wrongly) assumed that the giver had found a good book for me, therefore i did not quit the book in mid part 1. Part 1 is terrible, it is love love love, it's like you have stumbled in to the world of girls teen magazines.
In the second part (which I thought was the final part) the book picks up. For a while it feels like this is a thriller and not a lovestory. But all to soon it falls back into being a love story.
What was I thinking as I listened to this book:
Part 1 - Terrible, awfully boring
Part 2 - This is not bad, if it keeps this up it might actually be a decent book.
Part 3 - Shouldn't this have ended by now?
One note about the presentation and the way things are written. The autor has many good ways of putting things, and create some concepts that are fascinating like the dancing monkey. However the storyline kills the book.
No, but that's because it wouldn't hold me in suspense to the same degree. I don't regret listening to it at all, in fact I found it making me reassess things in my life. I was expecting more of a mystery, and found that it was more a critique of human nature along with some mystery. It was very entertaining.
Would love to say, but it would be a spoiler. Just listen to it!
Yes, I found myself quite drawn into the characters lives and at time it made me very angry and at times very sad. Quite a powerful book that really makes you consider how human relationships work.
I really didn't want to stop listening at the end of each train ride, I wanted to delve deeper. Definitely not a book to start listening to if you are about to be distracted from listening for awhile!
Probably, in a year or so.
A definite reaction, but if I talk about it I will give away the suprise
Excellent story, kept me thinking all the time what would come up next. Very sorry when it was all over.
This is read really well, you really get an insight into each character and a different sense of emotion each chapter :) looking forward to listening to more of Gillian Flynn's books
This story had me right from the start. It wove an incredible web of intrigue through all the characters and I could not put it down
Very disappointed with the narration; almost bad enough to toss the audiobook. But I wanted to hear the book more than the performances irritated me.
The story itself was good. Not unpredictable, but still twisty enough to be intriguing in the details. The details are where this book is most enjoyable. I recommend it to anyone wanting to listen to a intriguing mystery that is told from several perspectives. You'll know "whodunnit" by the halfway point (is it halfway? Hard to recall with an audiobook), but it's still a fun mystery seeing how things pan out.
