I heard about this book from my pastor and was surprised at the humor and insight of Bob Goff. His book is like having a conversation with a friend. This man is not an author but a doer, his stories are so memorable and the funny conversational tone makes you feel, think and Spurs to action
Bob Goth is a story teller. Each chapter is an easy-going chapter of his life and what he's learned. Love Does is truly inspirational in how to live a life of love and authenticity.
He starts off every chapter with "I used to believe...... But now I believe......" There are sooo many misconceptions of life that we carry around! Love Does helps us reconcile us with truth in a humble and accepting and easy way.
My favorite chapter was when he was describing about the letters that his children sent out to EVERY world leader in the world, and their experiences in visiting the leaders who requested them to visit. The most prominant thing that sticks out to me was when they were telling the school that they were going to absent for an extended period of time while they traveled around and visited 29 world leaders. The school disapproved, however the Goth family kinda said- screw you, we're going! When they received their 30th invitation, they didn't have enough money to go on one more trip... so they simply sold the truck.
I'd consider this book to be a bathroom book- as in, one that you can put down and pick up from time to time. The book doesn't obliged you to read it in one setting as most books do. Rather, it beckons you to read, but it also says- "it's okay if you put me down. I'll always be here for you to read."
So inspirational! I loved every second of it. It's so inspiring they feel like tall tales... But each whimsical story is true! I want to go and Do. Thanks Bob!
This book encourages to think big, Love big, and Act with courage and enthusiasm knowing that the Giod who loves you has called you on a BIG hair raising adventure. You will finish this book with resolve to engage this life and your relationship with God with purpose, intention, and whimsy. So thankful that my friend who "loves big" bought this for me.
The book is fine. He's a fairly entertaining guy but I didn't find much depth to the book. It seems little more than a "this is what I did that i seemed to work." Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I sensed my personality is VERY different from his and it's hard to take his suggestions seriously when I'm wired so differently. It's not a bad book but it's not a great one either.
31 paradigm challenging life stories read by the author. I often found myself thinking how some of the adventures he took (even some of the ones with his kids) were risky. What he called whimsy, I thought whoa, risky and presumptuous. But he has lived to tell the tale! I plan to continue to refer this book regularly to help me reshape my notions of risk and failure while trying to live the abundant life Christ offers me.
