Wow! what an engrossing listen.
The time traveling from present to WW1 was the most confusing and most engrossing listen. I completely lost myself listening to this story. Im heartsick with longing for the story to be longer for Kate and Julian.
I used my credit because of a glowing review from another listener. I have gotten half way and just cannot force myself to listen to the rest. I always believe in giving books a chance because some start slowly. I thought I had reached that point with this book but it never happened. I am not engaged in the story and I don't even want to know what happens in the end.
I found the writing "simple" and as one of the other reviewers mentioned, I very quickly got tired of "darling , love, beloved, sweetheart....
As to the performance, I have to give Ms Williams credit for being able to read this book.
I bought this book because it was recommended as similar to Deborah Harkness' Discovery of Witches. WELL! It's so similar that it feels like a rip-off. Skip this and enjoy the remarkable stories of Harkness.
Cool story idea, but the characters just seemed too much like Matthew and Diana.
The narrator of this book was excellent. I listened to it while sewing and it made the time go by very quickly.
I can't think of a book to compare it to. The story line was good and the development of the characters was great.
The story flowed so well that I can't say there was a particular scene that was my favorite.I could hardly wait to listen to it.
I would like to have a dinner party and invite all the characters from the book. It would be a very lively conversation around the dinner table.
I especially liked it that there were no graphic sex scenes. The author is so good, she does not need that to get people to buy and enjoy her books.
Overseas was one of the best booksI have listened to. The story is so sweet and romantic, perfectly read with distingable charactors by the narrator.
The ending pulled all the unanswered questions together to make the story even sweeter.
Jullian is my favoritecharactor performed by January LaVoy. She gets his English accent with just the right emphasis.
Mother of 3, grandmother of 6, retired nurse and substance abuse counselor. Thrilled to have the time to read or listen to books again.
i am getting so tired of novels where the heroine just does what ever she wants. in this novel the male lead begs her repeatedly to trust him and she never does. it became tedious listening to her justification and reasoning's only for her to turn the situation around where he was the one who was in error. it became boring and predictable after a while. as far as the time travel goes the way they time traveled was so unbelievable that i found my self rolling my eyes with the explanation of it. however i may be biased on that issue from reading diana gabladons outlander series where the time traveling events were very believable.
the love story was wonderful though, to be loved the way he loved her made you sigh heavily through out the reading and left you with a "if only" kind of feeling wondering if that kind of love really exists or if it's just in books and movies.
i thought the narrator did a very good job with the narration of this book.
definitely not my favorite but i have listened to much worse.
I really enjoyed this book!!!
Usually I like to listen to series of books but I took a chance on a one book novel. I was not disappointed. There was great character development and I really enjoyed the narration.
In the beginning I found the switching from different periods in time confusing but it began to make sense and really helped the story in the end.
Overall I would recommend this book to anyone :)
I enjoyed it!! I loved the development of the characters & their relationship. The story was plausible. The heroine wasn't too whiney or indecisive. Very light.
I enjoyed the way that the story mixed the current time with the historical time, the story weaves you through their lives in both eras so seamlessly. it almost seams natural. Loved this book and I highly recommend it. i could not put it down.
Her narration was excellent, ...
Julian Laurence is such a great billionaire hero in this book,.... no drama, no frustrating twists, just a beautifully developed love story... you cant help from falling in love with him too.
