Divergent is one of my favorite Dystopian series. The characters are well developed and come to life on the pages. The struggles seem real and include personal struggles as well at against outside forces.
I really enjoy watching the relationship between Tris and Four.
Emma Galvin has a young teenage sounding voice so she fits well with the Tris character.
I really enjoyed Divergent, and in many ways enjoyed this one just as much. Lots of action and combat and drama, and an ending that was somewhat of a surprise and was pretty good. The only thing I didn't like about it is that for me, the character Tris is getting increasingly more difficult to identify with. She keeps lying to and betraying her friends over and over again. That's tough for a main character to do that.
I want to feel good when I complete a story & am a little harsh on depressing ones. There are a few sad ones that I love but not many.
I enjoyed the second installment. I was taken by the plot twists and Roth is a bit raw with this one. Well written again and a deeper storyline. Not as enjoyable as Divergent but a must to see what happens. I am concerned about the progress of the series. I am into book 3 and not very happy and I see 4 is available for pre-sale. I hope 3 picks up because the series has potential.
I have to say im writing this review after i finished the third book as well...
so i can promise you you should finish this book and keep on going... but i have to say i would have killed tris several times during this book if i had been in 4's shoes, i think the story in the first book was much better and it is not necesarry to keep on reding /listening if you don't have to.
its an ok book and as i said the third one is better again but i would say only buy this book if you are going to read the third as well. otherwise just stay with the first one.
i cant decide. i like her voice. she does a great job reading this book in an interesting way and so i kept on listenig even when i didnt liked the story that much.
sort of... as i wrote earlier... i would have killed tris in this book severel times... but not because she was doing something that horrible or so... but because she was acting SO!! stupid.
The high pitched and rapid reading of the performance was at best annoying. I wanted to just get it over.
Absolutely. I read divergent same reader but the story was better. Saw the movie. Loved the movie. Insurgent was not a compelling story.
A woman with a lower pitched voice who spoke with a smoother delivery.
Not really. It was not good from beginning to end. I endured it.
I do not usually write comments but this was pure torture. I lived the Divergent movie and heard this was being made into a movie so I made my self listen to it.
From Veronica Roth, I'd only finish up the series, but considering how this book went, I can only see things going downhill. Though the story is interesting enough to keep me reading, the writing is dry. This book very much felt like a filler story that's leading up to the third book. I hope not to be disappointed with it, but don't get the feeling that it will be all too great.
As for Emma Galvin, I'm not very impressed with her reading of the story. Pronunciations of words were incorrect at points, and the overall reading was grating to the ears. At points, I was too distracted laughing at the reading to actually listen to the story. As the book went on, as with her previous reading of Divergent, it got better, but I still wasn't very impressed.
Most of the "plot twists" were predictable and felt cliche. While the entire premise has so much potential, it simply isn't executed well enough to feel realistic. When characters die, there isn't enough emotional connectedness to make a reader feel much sympathy for them. Not to mention that the villains are downright cartoonish in their actions and motives.
I don't like that Tobias and Tris hide so much from each other. I don't understand it, I felt like they were playing childish games when something much more serious was going on. I know I'll finish the 3rd book for the heck of it, but I don't know if this series is one I'd recommend to people. It's an easy read, but just didn't catch my attention enough.
Yes. If you like The Hunger Games then you will like this story. There are some great characters.
Tris of course. She's the main character. We see her as weak and become a strong leader.
Her voice didn't annoy me which is great.
I liked the basic outline of the plot. It was less of a straight script like the hunger games was, but still didnt leave much to the readers imagination
It's not as good as the first but still very good.
The moments with Tris and Christina about Wil.
Shut up it's all good.
