Loved it....too many words and emotions to convey. I'm having my kids read the book, so they can see the sacrifices made by others so they can have this life. I especially want my son to read so he can see what is truly important...other than what he sees on tv or in his video games.....truth, valor, hard work, sacrifice.....on and on....Thank you Marcus Luttrell.
It took me about two chapters to get accustomed to the narrator's approach to the reading. He uses a strong Texan accent and with strong first person inflections and acting. It was a bit disconcerting until the story grew more compelling. The telling of the story is great and the heroism supreme.
The only thing I found diminished the story was the vitriolic references to 'the liberal media'. It seemed unfair and unnecessary. Many a liberal soldier served and died in Afghanistan too.
Overall a really compelling account.
Thank god we have such strong individuals on the walls to protect us.
I'm a little apprehensive about buying Books on here because I'm not really on how they'll turn out But if you want to read an absolutely pure inspiring book of Hardship and Trial by fire and want to feel just about every emotion there is in this World, read this INCREDIBLE story. This guy is a freaking Hero! All of these guys are it's as a shame that we don't worship more people like this instead of these "Celebrities"that Contribute ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to Society.Plain and Simple if you want to read a fantastic bok get this one,it was worth every penny and then some you won't be making a mistake buying this one.
Before reading this book I had watched the movie and left the theater with feelings of gratitude towards our armed forces and feeling more appreciative for their actions and sacrifices. I thought that I had a better understanding of what they sometimes go through to defend our country. After reading this book, I realized I did not have a clue. The things those men and women put themselves through is astounding. We mere citizens can never begin to show our gratitude towards you, at least I can not. I often think about 9/11 and I also think about the men and women protecting this great nation and I hope they are well. However that is not always the case. I know that there are times when our armed forces have to make decisions that may result in the loss of life, and for that I am eternally grateful. Because I know they gladly bear that cross with honor so that our country can survive and flourish.
In closing, I know thank you doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of my gratitude, so I'll just have to do what every American should do. Live my life, love my God, love my country and love my family everyday. And whenever I get the chance show my respect to our members of the armed forces as best I can.
God Bless Marcus and all of his brothers and sisters in the military.
I read this book due to being the daughter of a Marine, sister to 2 Army brothers (one of whom was SF), and wife to an Air Force Veteran. pride for my country & the men & women who serve for it run deep in my veins. if you aren't a lifetime military bratt like myself & lack that pride... READ THIS BOOK! The people who serve our country deserve nothing but honor & awe from us Meer civilians. God bless you Marcus!
This is a great story of one of the biggest tragedies of the war in Afghanistan. Marcus Luttrell story is that of true heroes. Told in a way only Marcus Luttrell himself could tell. He completed is mission and deserves the utmost respect.
